wich mic preamp you use ?

hi , i was just wondering wich one you use ... and what you think about preamps under 600 like the universal audio solo 610, focusrite isa one and maybe the mpa gold ? i have a presonus firepod and i want to get one good preamp without paying the biiig price... i know this subject must have been talked about but the search on this forum realy sucks i think .. what ever thanks for giving opinions !

API 3124+ and the pres in our Soundtracs console. Looking into getting something like an A Designs PAcifica as well before long 'cause the API really makes the desk pres sound lame in comparison!

needless to say which one gets more use...

My opinion is that you should just try to save up some more money and get something that is truly amazing. I am so happy with the Tube-Tech even though I had to save for it a looooooong time. It really made an impact on the quality of my recordings.

Fireface 400

After reading many side by side comparisons, I simply can't justify paying a whole lot of money on a separate preamp for recording guitars and bass. Drums I can understand, since you actually do hear the difference, but I don't record drums so

The fireface 800 pre's don't sound great, but are sometimes just what the doctor ordered when recording vocals in dense mix for some reason.

Well, to my ears the difference is not worth 8 times the price. To get the same result, you can just do a small high shelf boost from 5k or so, or just move the mic slightly closer to the center

I'm making good use of my FMR Really Nice Preamp. It's a nice bang for the buck since you get two channels. The hi-z inputs are great for direct guitar recording also. It is also just $475. Here's a nice review by Tweak http://www.audio-pro-central.com/reviews/review_of_the_fmr_rnp.htm.

i've really been digging the MPA...not in the same class as truly high-end pres, but it's extremely versatile and probably the best dual-channel preamp you'll find, other than maybe the RNP, for less than $800

i've used the 2-610 a few times and they're nice pres, but definitely not something i'd use as a main preamp. it has a sort of "gooey" character to it that's great for some stuff, terrible for others.

The 2-610 is really nice on overheads, bass, guitar and room mics, the eq is pretty awesome.

Anything with TL audio written on it is crappy in my experience!

I do change it up, but i Mostly use...
API 3124- on Kick, snare and toms and some guitar
Chandler TG2 - on pretty much everything ; thats my desert island pre
Focusrite isa 428 on room and overheads, and sometimes guitar
Ua 610 on room mic, Bass and D.I
an then the mackie board for when i run out of nice channels!
