It refers to a battle in 1184 that took place in the area in Norway that the band are from, it was called the Battle of Fimreite if I remember.

maybe i heard the wrong albu or something, but 1184 just wasn't that great. they weren't epic enough for me or somethng, and they weren't black metal enough or something. it's really hard to describe what was lacking. 1184 wasn't horrible, just not fully....there.

Nachtfalke is much better at this sort of thing. IMO.
