I was just wondering what the general opinion is of this band around here. I just got into them not too long before Valfar passed. I lament the fact that I will never get to see them perform live. I really enjoy their style of viking/black metal and the inclusion of folk music into their sound. I know it is not entirely original, I just happen to feel they do it better than most - plus you can't beat accordians in metal :headbang:.
Does anyone know the significance of the cover art for Likferd or 1184? I've seen picutures of Windir standing in front of a stone with the date (I'm assuming that it is a date) 1184 carved into it. The problem is the song 1184 is in Norwegian, and my Norwegian language skills are nill - at best. I've also looked on the net for the significance of Likferd - but can't find anything except for the CD.

As a side note, I'm not sure if anyone is aware - 3 of the members (g/v, b, d) from Windir formed a new band called Vreid. They play something I would consider a "stripped down" version of Windir. More of a thrashing black metal sound without keyboards or the epic feel that Windir created - but still pretty catchy and pretty good.

Has anyone heard of Ulcus? They were the musicians that Valfar had join Windir during the recording of 1184. They put out one full length called Cherish the Obscure - but I can not find it anywhere and was just wondering what it sounded like.

Not sure about the significance of the cover art but here is an interview with Valfar that might answer some of your questions

This is probably the wrong forum to be asking questions about Windir

Here is the forum you would want to ask:

Thanks for the info - the interview did give the significance of 1184. I will ask about Likferd on the vikingblood forum.
