Hey gang,

Went out & picked up a Peavey Windsor head on Monday night. Now, usually, i wouldn't give an amp like this the time of day because of the price, but due to Daunt's posting of a most excellent clip, http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/rate-my-mix-tone-threads/335970-metal-mix-zero-samples-used.html#post6538442
I figured, what the hell... I'd go try it out. Here's a great tip: If you shop at Guitar Center, go on Monday nights, because the place is dead!! Not only will you be able to check out an amp in peace, but the salesmen are desperate to make any money at all. Enter, The Negotiator!!!!

Long story short, I walked out of the store with the floor model Windsor head for the the grand total of $320. Not bad for an all tube head.

Here it is in action:
WINDSOR TEST DRIVE

Enjoy!

Sounds pretty nice :)
I'd say more rock-oriented than metal, though. What cab is that?

I disagree. It certainly ain't Carcass, but then again, it ain't Bryan Adams either, is it? Think more along the lines of Ozzy.
Perhaps I'll cook up something faster & brutal somewhere down the road.

It was my Marshall 1690V cab, btw.

Thanks for the comment, though!!

Good work! How do the cleans compare to something like the 5150? (and the distortion! :p)

This is NOT an amp for playing cleans. It's a one trick pony, that's for sure. The 5150 distortion is far more scooped & has a deeper low end.

That being said, I don't even use a 5150 for cleans, I use my recto for that.

Well, yeah, these weren't the bands I was thinking of but you get my point - it's character is less brutal. Not saying it can't work for metal.

With a small dip around 550hz, it would be even better. That's where the typical Rockish Marshally honkiness lies.

Yeah I was completely channeling Zakk on this one. Even dragged a beat up, irreparable Ford Pinto into my front yard for the occasion. It goes with the Moonshine still. :)
