World Painted Blood

I've been listening to the album a few times and it's definitely their best material in a while. Still, I feel there's some filler like Psychopathy Red, Not of This God and Public Display of Dismemberment, songs that are the standard Slayer fare. I think the album shines in the slower tunes as the band can delve into more interesting stuff (Americon, Beauty through Order, Playing with Dolls and Human Strain). The beginning is fantastic with three great fast tunes but I believe the album loses steam by the end. Nonetheless, a good effort ;)

It's damn good! And the production is great. Very roomy and with lots of space in between the instruments. I love the fast songs of this one. They sound really intense.

Funny: my brother is married to a Chinese from the northeastern city Harbin. He was married there and invited me to come to the wedding in Harbin China in October 2001. While I was there I was told of a concentration camp in the vicinity where during the war the Japanese did brutal experiments on prisoners.

After reading an interview with Kerry and Tom about the new album they told about the lyrics of a song called 'Unit 731'. And it's subject is the experiments in the concentration camp near Harbin. Weird hu?

A quote:

"Unit 731 was based in the Pingfang district of Harbin, the largest city in the Japanese puppet state of Manchukuo (now Northeast China).

More than ten thousand people, from which around 600 every year were provided by the Kempeitai, were subjects of the experimentation conducted by Unit 731.

More than 95 percent of the victims who died in the camp were Chinese and Korean, including both civilian and military. The remaining 5 percent were South East Asians and Pacific Islanders, at the time colonies of the Empire of Japan, and a small number of the prisoners of war from the Allies of World War II."

Pretty cool Hawk, though brutal is an understatement!! Never heard of that....

Well, before I visited the region I never heard of that either, and I studied history. There are many things in the history of Asia that 'we' in Europe and the US don't know, or know very little about. That's normal I guess. Time is limited and we have to make choices.

Does anyone know what they are mumbling at the beginning of world painted blood? i replayed it a few times and i couldn't figure it out, didn't sound like English.

Man, go figure! I hadn't heard of this until a week ago when I stumped upon a link from an almost unrelated wiki article and started reading. Really fascinating stuff.

I think I read that unit 731 was inspired by the nazis, no?
