Sounds like a shitty preproduction, I am dissapoint, Slayer.
It's a shame, great songs in it, but I hate the sound of it.
Who's with me?

and I agree with you, there's some killer tunes on there but that sound is just ... well, bad

It sounds like a band playing through actual amps without gobs of help to make it loud and METAL. What's so wrong with a more organic sound?
It sounds like a thrash band playing through random gear they borrowed from the jazz trio next door without unnecessary gain or balls to make it loud and METAL. I can't wait for the collaboration album with James Blunt.
hahahaha brilliant as always Jark
<3
And don't get me wrong, I definitely don't thing Fidelman is a bad engineer per se, I just think he isn't the right guy for this kind of music. I love his work with High On Fire, Audioslave, Johnny Cash, SOAD and so on.
This is the first Slayer album I enjoy song wise, since Divine Intervention! The sound is crap though!! I agree. Look at new Maiden stuff, it´s even more terrible. Weak songs & weak production in my opinion. Slayer rule hell!!!
I disagree with everything you say hahaha I love Maiden´s new albums, and I like God Hates us All

Only an assistant engineer on the SOAD one also.
Ahem...
Imagine WPB with the sound of Testament's "The Gathering" and tell me you didn't just get a little hard
