Worship music leaked

Worship Music is a great record. I am happy with it.

Anyone else notice all the Battlestar Galactica quotes in the songs? I know some of the band members loved that show and you can sure hear it in this record. I wonder how many songs it was snuck into?

So far I have noticed:
Hell on Earth:
"So Say We All"-> Major religious saying used through the series (mostly by Cmdr Adama). Even the song reminds me of the pain of the "search for earth" with all the ticking clocks and bitching about earth.

Fight em till You Cant:
This song and the title seem to be inspired by scenes with Colonel Tigh and the fight against the Cylons on New Caprica. Pretty sure Tigh used this saying in the show even.
I emailed Scott about this a year or 2 ago. He replied, "Yeah, the whole record is secretly all about BSG."

And, yes, Starbuck says "We fight em til we can't" a couple times in the series.

Not too many mentions of The Giant here. It's one of my favorite tracks after ITE. It has a chorus that just won't quit once it gets in your head.

It took a few listens before I got into it. The Giant is one of my favorites. I love the drums, especially during the chorus!

True about this. Some songs don't instantly grab you at first but `The Giant' is really getting stuck in my head.

In the End for me right now is the real star of the show.

of course i didn't expect a Thrash record from Thrax in 2011 but heavier faster songs are hardly to be found on WM, i'm a bit disappointed after my first couple listens. i don't get all the praise for 'In The End' and 'The Devil You Know', those songs are not bad but definitely not worth the long wait imo. WM is rather a hard rock- than a metal-record and pretty generic for the most part. it's definitely better than their last couple of albums but it can't touch their classic records like STD or AMONG. i'm not sure if WM is good enough to re-establish them in the metal-scene after 15 years of continuous degradation of their status.

Listened to it for the third time today and I can say that it is definitely better than I'd anticipated.

Like you said, it's more hard-rock than metal and I have to agree
I also agree that it's very generic.

However it's got enough great melodies, riffs and singing and as a whole package it is a lot better than the recent stuff put out by Metallica and Megadeth - who i have always considered to be superior to Thrax.

Enjoy it while it lasts cause going by the happenings in the last few years, don't be surprised if this line-up splits in a couple of years. :Spin:

i just gave it another spin and my view on the whole thing has totally changed. 'In The End' and 'Judas Priest' are getting better with every spin and 'The Giant' is one of my faves so far. soundwise it's closer to Bushthrax than classic Thrax but imo Joey fits the modern sound well.

I get goosebumps listening to In The End given the subject matter.

What a fitting and emotional tribute to Dime & Ronnie.

Hard Rock I would agree with.

I truly laugh at the overuse of the term pop music though. I don't make it a habit of listening to too many pop music stations but from the little I have heard recently as well as what is passing as pop music on various pop award shows, I don't think anything resembling what Anthrax is putting out next week having made it on them.

According to some, I guess after Anthrax get done with the Testament and Death Angel tour, they will be hopping on a personal jet plane to open up the big tour with Lady Gaga. :Spin::loco:

Listening on the drive home from work yesterday, In The End made me teary eyed.

Seriously a fucking masterpiece.

I can picture Dime and Ronnie rocking out to it in Heaven.

The best song Scott ever wrote, and Joey kills it on vocals. Even channels Dio at times.

My only real complaint is that like about half the songs on POT, half of the songs from WM are too long and seem to drag on. They great thing about "Earth On Hell" and "The Giant" is that they hit hard, say what they need to say by the time they're over. You can always listen to them again. "I'm Alive" and "In The End" seem like they want to ape Black Sabbath way too hard in the same way that Black Album Metallica does. On the upside, they're catchier than that.

Earth on Hell and Fight 'Em Til You Can't are perfect examples of classic thrashy Anthrax in a modern-day setting. The Devil You Know, I'm Alive, In the End, Judas Priest, The Constant, and Revolution Screams bring a fresh mixture of everything they've done, but still maintaining a solid heavy metal vibe. There are parts of some songs (mostly just catchy, not necessarily 'pop'), but I think the only FULL song to really go the way of 'pop' or 'radio-friendly hard rock' is Crawl. Most of the song reminds me of a shitty version of Soundgarden. I don't see there being much argument that that's (by far) the worst song on the album. I'm not digging The Giant too much either, except for the solo part towards the end. It's also worth noting that it's harder to get fully into the album without all the lyrics, and I'm sure I'll like the songs even more once the album is in my hands.

My only other complaint is that the kick drum is triggered, but for metal in 2011 I guess that's a given.

It's on Czech sharing servers already and there is a big discussion about it on the biggest Czech metal web, looks like the folks here are kind of disappointed in the way IMF09 is. One post for example:

"No way is this a thrash metal record. Sounds more like hard rock, some of it reminds me of Audioslave and Soundgarden. I expected they go back to golden years, now that Belladonna is back, but I'm confused about this."

most of the comments are similar. I have to wait a few days.

Soooooooo.....
If the concensus amongst the true old school thrax fans is that Joey being back would save the band and that the new album isn't great does this mean they will continue to play tours as they have around WCFYA?

Or...did the big 4 shows give them enough exposure to play bigger places? And if so, would it have matteered (in the opinion of the joey nut swingers) if John stayed on?

But, who gives a crap about what other people think? That amazes me! Why can't people listen to the album and decide if they like it or not by their own taste?

And the comment that says that this sounds like audioslave and soundgarden, its a joke. Its gotta be. I don't know either of those bands well, but the only song on the album that sounds commercial and with a grunge feel, kinda like Stone Temple Pilots is Crawl.

The rest of the album, im my opinion is fresh, dynamic, more heavy metal and sometimes hard rock than thrash, but with some thrash moments. Overall, it sounds like Anthrax, which as you know were never a typical thrash metal band.

Good album, in my opinion, with the exception of crawl, and Joey is the star on this, hand down.

I'd hardly call STP a grunge band anyway, maybe a song or two, they are really more diverse than people give them credit for. I do think some of this album sounds like Soundgarden though, and Maiden too.

I'm a big fan of Bush anthrax, I didn't get into them until SOWN because I was too young. But I like this new album a lot, it's really more like the recent stuff than it is like the old Anthrax. Also, I was expecting a bunch of phoned in vocals from Belladonna, and suspected that his voice wouldn't suit the kind of thing the band were doing now. But it's not like that at all, I think Belladonna has done a great job.

I'm a Bush fan but am always amazed at how many people (including Scott and Charlie) talk like Joey doesn't pipes. He's a strong singer and I expected him to lay out good vocals.
