Liv Kristine is great.

I agree Liv Kristine is amazing, my favorite from her is the song "Mourning Tree" where she is the sole vocalist.

I rarely like female vocals.

Seriously??????...I find female vocals to be incomparable of course when they are done right, even when the band might be somewhat lacking. I can even appreciate some Epica, Simone Simmons is very good, I would recommend the song "Solitary Ground" from them. Actually, I might need some recommendations for female metal vocalists, all I seem to get on this forum is "The Gathering". Lately I have been listening to Vanguard and early 3rd and the Mortal.

^Anneke from The Gathering owns, That chick from Paatos(Petronella iirc or something like that) also rules...Madder Mortem has a pretty cool female singer as well, but i won't even try to recommend people like Fiona Apple or Bjork to you.

^Well, check those artists then...not that i have anything against mainstream music(unlike you), but Fiona Apple is definetely the most mainstream of them all, so you prbbly won't like her, it is kinda poppy for your standards. You can't go wrong with all the others if you like real quality female vocals that aren't ''mainstream'' sounding...
