Would have you like better an heavy album which DO NOT contains mellow parts instead of the forthcoming mellow album?
Just wondering

Actually, the best way to put it is to say how there are significant amounts of bands that don't really have any change, they are always heavy. Opeth's acoustics and Mikael's beautiful clean vocals should lend to some interesting and still quite different style of lighter music. :)

The heavy album will be a traditional Opeth release so we're not missing out on anything! We're getting a second release in the space of a few months so I can't think of why anyone would complain.

I, for one, would prefer it if Opeth didn't revisit any of their old material with their upcoming releases. There's still so much room for them to experiment. If i want to hear MAYH or Morningrise I'll play them. It would be good to have something really extreme, diverse or progressive. I want to hear them really push it as far as it can go.

Interesting...I am quite the opposite. While I like change at times and things to proceed differently, I would love to hear another album from them along the same lines as Orchid/Morningrise...except, of course - different, better music if it is possible. Another thing; if they push it as far as they can go, what will there be left? :D They'll have to look back at their previous efforts/masterpieces and one-up them!

Anyway, all said and done I am HIGHLY anticipating the new Opeth album. I'm eager to hear what they have in store for all us metalheads!

Lastly, an answer to the original question: I love both the styles, but I prefer the heavy parts. For example, the heavy growls, electrifyingly-stunning solos and awesome riffs off of Orchid are more memorable to me than the acoustic/mellow parts (no matter how stunning those parts on their own may be....)

humm I agree with you about Orchid but IMO, it's quite the opposite with Morningrise. To myself, the most memorable parts are made of accoustic guitars and Clean vocals: The Night And The Silent Water, Black Rose Immortal, To Bid You Farewell.

The thing is if they released 60 minutes of pure heavy music it would lose its meaning. The soft parts magnafy the heavy parts if you know what I mean. Like in Demon of the Fall, the part where Mikeal goes nuts, its only so powerful because of the short acuostic part before. If that wasn't there and it went from one heavy part to a heavier part, the trasition doesnt work as well and something is lost.
