Yes, I'm sure again I'm late to the party, but it looks like I can add yet another entry to the list of things my former housemate has gotten me hooked on - this song is so fucking good,

I never realized how amazing aggressive Halford-esque vocals can sound over a wall of double bass, I don't like it as much when the Into Eternity guy does it (in fact, I just don't really like IE), but MAN does this rule. MUST HAVE MOAR

EDIT: However, the chorus would be about a billion times better if it didn't have that stupid chromatic part going up to the tonic in it  (when he sings "Deceiver takes my soul"). God I hate when bands do that, it's exactly the same in Skid Row's "18 and Life", DEATH TO CHROMATICISMS IN CHORUSES (you all who are keeping track, you can also add this to your list of things Marcus hates, along with blues, Warrell Dane, breakdowns, and overhead lighting :D)

Haha, yup, can't stand blues, I don't mind little bluesy touches in solos and stuff, they can add a lot of attitude, but the genre overall just leaves me utterly cold and makes me think of annoying middle-aged white people with thick-rimmed glasses and soul patches playing their strats that all look exactly the same. And Warrel Dane, well, I already went over that in the "New Nevermore" thread.

But one thing that really strikes me; for awhile, everyone drilling in the whole "turn down the gain" refrain into my head caused me to make some really undergained tones IMO; listening to this tone though, character wise it's not perfect, but there's so much gain and it just roars with all that saturation, I fucking love it - sorry low gain people, you may have more dynamics and note clarity, but in terms of all-conquering awesomeness and fullness, you lose IMO! :D

Hell yeah!

The girl that i'm now with when i first met her she ask if i heard the Mercenary song, and i freaked out and thought she was amazing to know who Mercenary was! I then found out that she was talking about the video game, where they sing "i'm a mercenaryyyy sukka shoulda paidd meee" and i was very disappointed...

So...you're dating a ghetto fabulous gamer chick? Hey, whatever makes you happy I guess! :D

And Jacare, their first album I think came out in 1998, so check out the songs posted above which are from their 2004 album 11 Dreams, they have a different singer (and maybe some other different members) and more importantly I'd imagine matured greatly as songwriters in 6 years!

blues solos where there shouldnt be blues solos is always kickass, but i have to admit when it comes to that whole hokey 12 bar blues progression.

here is why i overgain my guitar tones to fuck!

Yeah dude, he's absolutely singing his heart out and the vocals are so fucking soaring (which I guess Jorge doesn't like, cuz he doesn't like Sonata Arctica either, the weirdo :D), I can't enough of it. And Gareth, yup, we're on the same page there! (still within reason though :D)

Damn, high praise indeed Erik, and therefore since they must influence your writing and I dig your stuff, all the more reason for me to check out more! :D
