I never listened much to this song from Spreading the Disease, but I had the CD on in the car today and it just fucking sucks. It must be the worst song Anthrax have ever done.
The main problem is the backing vocals, the "Screams...in the night" ones. Who the FUCK did them? It doesn't sound anything like Scott or any normal 'Thrax vocals - it sounds like Scott's voice slowed down.
Did they originally record this as a fast song, then slow the tapes down for Joey to sing over?
Everything about the song is complete shit. Nothing works. It's like a terrible WASP song gone badly wrong.

Forgive me if this is common knowledge, I've been into 'Thrax for at least 18 years and I don't ever remember anyone talking about this particular song.

It's up there with "Medusa." Though I've heard "Medusa" live and it was ok. Nice avatar, by the way. My first big concert was Jethro Tull with ELP in '96!

I disagree, I like it. It's definitely not the heaviest thing ever, but it's got a nice groove. And to be honest, I kind of always tuned out the backing vocals on this song. I dig every song on Spreading the Disease. In my opinion, it's the best, most consistent thing Anthrax has ever done (Though AtL and PoT are great too). *omg my first post in like two years!!11*

You think that sucks???

Try listening to raise hell from A & D. I think that is the worst Thrax song besides I'm the man.

Damn I actually think those songs and Spreading in general has Joey's best vocal performances, downhill from there IMO. Now I gotta go listen, it's been a while!

"The Enemy" is not the better song of anthrax, it's a fact: we don't vote for him for Greaters...(do you remember?)
But he speaks about Shoah, this is not really funny, the music is in the same feeling.
OK for Raise Hell, he REALLY sucks..
But WTF with I'm The Man ???????
It was a Fuckin' Joke on stage, the Fans (we) wants it on disc, the song was an influence for a new gen of musicans... What Else !!!

What? Are you a spambot?

"I'm The Man" was a fucking great song.
And if anyone doesn't remember the backing vocals on "The Enemy", go listen now and tell me it doesn't sound ridiculous.
It's like that big crazy bastard from "The Goonies" did the backing vocals.

OK for the backing vocals, (but in my opinion the enemy is better than medusa and his " medusâââââââââ ")
The enemy has a good final,( when it speeds a bit), exept the final cut of "in the night

But this is Anthrax and i love this band for everything they do, like when my wife says something wrong, this is my wife and i love her, it's all!

I always loved that tune. And thats Scott on backing vocals isn't it? Jesus..... it was recorded almost 25 years ago.......

Medusa sucks? WTF???

That is a killer song.

And yes Raise Hell is probably their worst song ever... hilarious to listen to actually.

Most of that album, ehh. But A.I.R.! Holy shit! The punk undertones of that song kick my ass! Medusa, I think the main riff is great, but I think something better could have been built around it. Then again, I was only three years old when it came out and still don't know shit about shit. ;

Well, you're from Brew City like I am so you know something. About goddamn BEER.

John Bush's AIR wipes the floor with Bellardini.

Yeah, I know about how much Miller makes us bend over as far as beer prices go at the stadium!

Anyway, Bush wipes the floor with Bellardini overall. But Scott's guitar tone in the Spreading The Disease version is way better than it is on TGOTE. Tone and feeling, actually.

No detuned guitars on the original. Brilliant album. One of my favourites.

No one's addressed the backing vocals. WTF are they all about? There is no way that's Scott's normal voice. No way. It must be slowed down.
So why did they do that?
Does anyone know?

I think they recorded the song faster originally. It would certainly sound better faster.
