Whilst searching for a new amp head or whatever, i just wondered whether any of you guys have had experience with them? When i get a decent head, im only ever going to be able to record at lower volumes in my own anyway on the whole, so i wonder if the power brake or attenuator can make a real big difference in practice to the tube sound?

I've had two experiences with the Marshall Power Brake. Both were bad. Two different ones, right out of the box, one didn't work properly at all. The other one basically melted after about 4 hours of use. I have borrowed very old THD HotPlates that have hours and hours of use on them, for clients here at the studio to use, and they have always delivered. Plus it's got frequency compensation for lower volumes, meaning when you turn it down, the highs and lows stay the same as when it's cranked. The Power Brake doesn't do that.

THD HotPlate $279

Pick your ohmage and start rippin balls. :)

The other guitarist in my band used a Power Brake, and it burned out a few months ago. I've only heard good things about the HotPlate, I'd go that route if I were you.....
