Well I found a listing off craigslist in Brooklyn for my recently acquired Mesa Standard 4x12 straight cab. Who posted it? Richard Z Kruspe from Rammstein!

I didn't even recognize him until he started talking and I was like LOLZ RAMMSTEIN. He used the cab to track their last album, so I suppose I own a piece of music history.

I honestly don't know how to upload a picture to this forum, so someone explain it to me (recordingreview.com has a section for pictures).

Use Photobucket - but I think I know the exact cab you bought, since I too remember seeing it on CL :D A slant with the top overhang in Williamsburg, right? And the seller (Richard Z, goddamn, he lives in Brooklyn? ) also had another of the same type of cab and a Diezel?

Nope, I got a straight. Here's the listing, mine was #2 (which is now missing)

I was thinking about the Uberkab, but I hear its not so great (might as well just swap the speakers out in my 5150 cab, which I will eventually do.)

As you can see, the Mesa and Avatar Cab are nearly the same size.

Also (not purposefully) I realized I have the exact same 3 tube heads as OzNimbus LOL.

Haha, well Oz has a 5150 I (not II), but otherwise yeah (and the same cab too :D) Still, I'd say the Mesa definitely looks taller than the Avatar, which is a little more square-shaped. Sweetness though man, I can't wait until I can sell this Stiletto cab and grab one!

My 5150 II has the lead and rhythm channels converted back to the original 5150 specs, I have the bias mod AND a custom Mercury Magnetics output transformer- I told you its a beast and when I get the 'rents and aunt out of the house, I'm setting up an Audix i5 and lettin' her RIP.

Hey, it´s time for me to ask you:

How the Avatar stand before the Mesa, in terms of sound, i know the mesa is better, but how much, or what differences they have??

that's cool.

one time I sold a univox superfuzz to a dude in NY for a shitload of money. I researched his name, and his name googled as a guy that had produced all these mega-pop star bands. not a huge deal, but different than the normal putzes you deal with on there.

My head and cab used to be part of mastodons back up tour rig. Unfortunatly I didn't buy it off them :(

HONESTLY, I'm not going to say that the Mesa is BETTER. I suppose I'll have a shootout between the cabs soon.

The Avatar has different speakers, I did an X pattern of V30's and G12H30's. I think that the Avatar has a more rounded (not in a bad way) bottom end and a bit more crisp highs.

I think the Mesa has a SLIGHTLY tighter bottom end, and more of an emphasis on the lower and higher mids and not the shite reigion that no one likes. The highs are also placed differently in the spectrum. To an untrained ear, the two cabs could sound very similar, but the Mesa is darker overall.

How would you describe the tonal differences between V30s and G12H 30's dude?
