I just recently became an actual 'fan' of The Cure when a certain someone told me that her theme song for me was 'Lovesong'. =] I've been listening to 'Disintegration' like crazy since then, and I'm wondering what album to go for next. I already have 'Pornography' - have had it for a while, actually, but until recently the only song I liked was 'One Hundred Years' (which still destroys). I figure that more than a few people around here probably like The Cure, so I thought I'd ask you guys what your favorite album of theirs is. I'd like to go for their darker stuff first, by the way.

Disintegration is my favorite. I also prefer Boy's Don't Cry, Head On The Door and Seventeen Seconds to the rest of their discog.

Would have to be Disintegration of course. IMO their darkest albums Pornography and Faith in second.

I first heard The Cure way back when I was 12 years old. The first song I heard was "a forest" and after that I went out and bought Disintegration on cassette.

I guess it's a mix between Pornography and Disintegration though.

Wow, first Deftones thread, then The Cure - kinda my wish list :) Oh, and, my favorite album is Wish. But I guess every The Cure album means something special for me. And new album 4:13 Dream will be awesome according to singles.

Disintegration is definately my favorite. After that it would probably be Wish. If you're just interested in a collection of good songs and don't mind checking out something that isn't a studio album, I'd also recommend Greatest Hits and Staring At The Sea: The Singles.

Funny how these things can start because of those certain someone's =)

My favorite is Disintegration.

I masturbate furiously to this band. The Head on the Door, Disintegration and Bloodflowers are their best works imo.

The Head on the Door is a very varied Cure album, it draws influences from flamenco and even some dance stuff like on "Close to me". It’s a totally fun album and it’s got some beautiful songs like "A Night Like This" and "In Between Days".

Disintegration is a darkwave/goth rock monster. Epic as fuck, every song is colossal, and the bass/guitar interplay is genius.

Bloodflowers is one of the most perfect late-night chill albums ever. The album is made mostly of dark jangly ballads. The feeling of decay that the music conveys and the wise lyrics that Rob Smith writes is pretty amazing.

I truly recommend the Staring at the Sea compilation for any starter, considering that it features really essential Cure tracks.
