Because we haven't had a thread on them for awhile... :loco:

The year was 1992, and I was just getting seriously acquainted with metal. I first heard Megadeth on the local metal radio channel, they were playing Symphony of Destruction. I have no idea why, but even though I'd never heard ANYTHING from them, I KNEW this was Megadeth. So what's every good 13 year old with no money do? Join ColumbiaHouse and get a shitload of CDs for FREE!!! :tickled: I immediately ordered Rust in Peace and Countdown to Extinction, and pretty much the rest is history.

Shit, way too many. Kerrang's 10th Anniversary party at the London Marquee, and then lining up outside Tower Records for 4 hours to get my CASSETTE copy of Rust in Peace signed by Mustaine, Menza, Ellefson, and Friedman. Totally in awe.

Seeing them support Metallica in '91 in an open field gig, surrounded by 70,000 fans.

Of course, the big thing for me though was learning every fucking nuance of Rust in Peace whilst at college. Found other like minded people just as semi-obsessed with its greatness, and just jamming Hangar 18, Holy Wars etc all day long, for days on end. (All except Poison was the Cure - I've never been able to play that).

And in between, watching Apocalypse Now and The Producers with faces buried in a big Egyptian hookah pipe full of weed straight outta Compton.

My first contact with Megadeth was my friend playing me Rust in peace when it came out. The only thing I can remember was thinking that Dawn partol was an odd track. Then countdown came out and Symphony of destruction was on heavy rotation on headbangers ball. I borrowed the single from someone and then bought the album used. Been a fan ever since.

JayKeeley: That Milton Keynes gig? would have been cool to have witnessed.

what is this thread? ... trying to make Mustaine feel better for getting kicked out of Metallica? :)

did you guys see his weepeing session in Some Kind of Monster or something?

just for the record ... i have every Megadeth release from Cryptic Writings and earlier ... but never saw them live.

Dawn Patrol was the first song I figured out (without transcription) on bass. :kickass:

Never saw them live either. Balls.

First bought RIP in the early 90's (probably '92) after getting Metallica's early albums. I always did like the last track. Proceeded to get some early albums and CtE, Youthanasia.

I especially liked Hidden Treasures, because of Angry Again and the awesome Diadems (Diadems>Rust in Peace). I always liked Youthanasia, but could never appreciate the older stuff. Don't know why. I really didn't like CtE except for the title track.

The rest is history I guess. Megadeth was a necesary stepping stone (like Metallica) on the road to better metal. For that, they'll always have my respect.

I was actually around to see them when Kerry King was in the band. Wasn't a fan at that time though. Best memory is playing with Judas Priest and Testament for Painkiller. Still one of the greatest tours ever. I can still picture nothing but speakers covering the entire stage at the Nassau Coliseum..

You should probably check out the new one, it reminds me of Angry Again. Well, what I've heard.

Kerry King was in Megadeth?! When was this?

Correct. Opening the festival was Diamond Head, and then The Almighty. The latter are probably the loudest band I've ever seen. Megadeth were great, except for being plagued with a bad sound PA system, especially during "Countdown to Extinction". (They suffered from a shit live sound for most of their earlier existence, I don't know why but they had the worst road crew ever). Metallica were good as always, and we got a live version of "The God that Failed", which is probably my fave track from The Black Album.

Oh and we got mugged on the way to Milton Keynes. When asked why one guy in our group was so quick to hand his money over to these fuckers, he replied "because I'd rather swallow pride than blood". :tickled: All they got was some spare change, so I laugh about it now.

I feel like such a young 'un. :(

It was 2000, I was 14, and it was shortly after I got bored of metallica (no small feat) and started looking for more similar music.

yeah....

I remember watching the cover of a tape of my big brother´s and listening to the music while he did. The year might have been.. ´95, maybe, so I was 12 back then. I like their music, but I have never been really a fan of them. So this explains why I have no clue what was the name of the tape. There is this very skinny and suffering-looking man screaming in a cellar or something.

Heh, I had So Far So Good So What back in the day on vinyl. Had my own radio show too at my college campus, and most of the time I would kick the show off with "Set the World Afire".

I saw that Priest show in 1990 too, but the UK tour had Annihilator supporting. Saw it at the Hammersmith Odeon, London. This is when Annihilator were promoting Never Neverland....just amazing how shit they became instantly after that album. Even their new one is supposed to be an outright disaster considering the hype that led to it.

Megadeth were my introduction to metal , So Far So Good So What is still my favorite thrash album of all time . Now I don't listen to thrash anymore nor to Megadeth . Respect , nothing more

Annihilator went from great to shit to mediocre, back to great, back to shit, and now back to mediocre again. I guess we're due for a great one next time out.
Hmm, they had a quick return to greatness? Which album is that?

Right at the very beginning! So respect to that other guy if he saw that! Fucking hell!

My first Megadeth experience was a mate bringing over his new copy of Peace Sells that he'd got while ojn holiday. This is about four years ago. I wasn't really paying asttention and thought it was kinda naff. I've only really gotten into Megadeth in the last six months, only own one song by them (like Metallica actually).

Zing!

How interesting Kerry King was in Megadeth. Not surprised that didn't last, the egos between him and Mustaine could have ignited WWIII! :loco:
