Some say that they sound like dimarzios with the sterility and lack of dynamics of actives, others think they're very close to EMGs. Can't remember many/any that say they're better though.

All three of the bands listed use the 81 AFAIK if thats any help. Have heard mixed reviews about the D-Activators, but most people going for the active sound seem to prefer the 81.

Metaltastic, have you played a schecter recently? As in the '08 models? I'm under the impression that schecter necks, specifically the hellraisers have been reprofiled. Over on the sevenstring forum, a lot of people have said they're not as big or uncomfortable (to some) as they used to be. And...

Haha, I can see the same thing happening to me and my bassist soon. We borrowed a 5150 II to do a quick recording in february and our mate hasn't mentioned it since. Not looking forward to the day he decides we're taking the piss a bit.

I never thought wood made a difference with actives, but a schecter hellraiser and a loomis sound worlds apart

+1 I still really rate the mix, the toms sounds fat and the snare is unusually natural sounding. Guitars are nice n clean too.

Loving the tracks i've heard, didn't notice a compression problem but i've only listened on decent pc speakers. But yeah, I can see it being one of my favourite releases of the year. They one of the catchiest technical bands I can think of.

I hope this isn't official, the tracks i've heard from the album are seriously good, and the copies I have do not sound that bad. EDIT: Haha, maybe they do, just loaded a couple into cubase and they are pretty damn squashed. Still, we can wait til the 11th to find out if its official

Waste of what exactly? Electricity?:p If it gets that tone recorded, I think its worth it. I'd like to hear how much of a difference it makes with the slaved amp inserted, never really thought about doing it before.

Has anyone managed to get a sample of the kick from the last decapitated album? That one was meaty as hell. I've been using an ion dissonance kick recently.

I dunno about the cheapest, but I doubt its anywhere in the England, I can say that much. I was in denmark street the other day, saw one for £900!!! Thats just under 1500 usd! I'll have to keep anything mentioned here bookmarked, cos no way am i buying one here. But I do want one...
