    Traditional Doom Metal

Saw Solstice at the Up the Hammers festival in Athens a couple of weeks back. It was mightily awesome.

    Doom!

Yes, I've caught a couple of those. Will try the rest, cheers!

    Doom!

Sooo... Has anything truly worthwhile been released, say, the last year? I haven't been around much the last months, but was hoping to discover new exciting things upon returning to the internets. No such luck as of yet, though. :(

    Black Metal.

Alright, I'll definitely check this out. Beherit is a new fascination with me, as I was for many years obligated by Norwegian black metal law to dislike them.

Has any one lost respect for Nile, Behemoth, Amon Amarth etc?!?

Thing is, sometimes you've listenened to a band's classic work on a daily-to-monthly basis since the shit was released 20 years ago, and then it's good to get something new, even if it is, frankly, a step down. The new Unanimated still sucks, though (based on myspace samples :\ ).

    Black Metal.

Wait, Beherit's new album is out? I really have been away from the internet for too long. Is it good? At any rate, thanks for the clarification. It certainly makes them somewhat less... moronic, in my eyes, though I'll clearly have to investigate this new resurgence before I decide whether...

    Black Metal.

This is all fair enough, but I still feel that all this porturing ultimately boils down to empty rhetoric from a solid band overestimating their own importance and are trying to score points in this new-age old-school scene that was mentioned. That's a good point about Fenriz, though.

    Black Metal.

I own their first three records, if that counts for anything. Care to elaborate on what I am clearly missing?

    Black Metal.

What is the point, then? Oh, and lol @ Averse Sefira thinking they're relevant. Signed, pre-1990 metalhead.

    DRUDKH - Microcosmos

First time I've stopped by here in months and this is the first thing I see. Glorious.

    Controversial opinions on metal

There was a lot of that going around in Oslo in the mid to late nighties (probably later as well, but I had stopped caring at that point, so...), but usually from people who were into black metal for all the wrong reasons. I can only assume that the same applies to most other black metal scenes...

    Controversial opinions on metal

TSD had some interesting dynamics going on, but they weren't properly explored and so the album left a lot to be desired. I still listen to it occasionally for the pretty melodies, though.
