I listen to ND on occasion... but they're really quite doom metal-ish and I have to be in a certain mood (really pissed off or really tired and slow) for their slow and often actively unhappy sounding music. Opeth has a song for every mood and they do it better. I do like and even on a bad day...

So would people guess it'll probably be over by 11:45 at the latest? It sounds like it'd be over even earlier then that if the Palladium worked like the Orpheum but I suspect the music won't start until WAY after 7. The Orpheum started on time to the minute.

I'm not sure what Akerfeldt uses but I know that I always use Jazz 3's... once you get used to them they're brilliant, very fast and they make pinch harmonics easy. I agree they aren't great for rhythm though.
