    The concerts thread

I don't need to, I'm all stocked up for the moment.

    The concerts thread

Whatever, bro. You don't know me, my friends, how they play (yes, they use double bass, a couple quite good), or if they have played shows (some of them have). And you can believe me or not when I say I saw his feet and the beaters. Maybe you can explain to me why I would lie and just make that...

    The concerts thread

They were the first band and the place was barely crowded . . . so, it wasn't hard to "walk" over near the side of the stage and see his feet. What, do you go to a lot of concerts where drummer hide their feet or something? I wasn't necessarily criticizing the drummer. I get it is hard and...

    The concerts thread

Saw Hate Eternal, Born of Osiris, Unearth, Cannibal Corpse, and Hatebreed last night at Pops in St. Louis. Hate Eternal sucked. Real disappointment. Thought the drummer was awesome, until we walked over to watch his feet, only to see he had those things triggered to the max, beaters were barely...

    What's with all the "Cores"?

Yeah, I went on a Wikipedia spree and figured it all out. Seems like any "core" just implies it is something that has "hardcore punk influences," whatever the hell that means.

    What's with all the "Cores"?

Metalcore, deathcore, mathcore, and a dozen other core bands out there. What the hell does the "core" connotate? I'm just curious, because if all these are separate genres (which I know there are, and I'm not debating that), but since all of them have this "core" in common, there must be some...

    Controversial opinions on metal

    Technicalities can suck balls.

    Long songs.

Just get Scenes from a Memory, its their magnum opus. But, I still like a lot of their newer stuff. Train of Thought is probably their heaviest album, and it has some good songs. I really like Octavarium, also. One lame song, and the song Octavarium is possibly my favorite song by them...

    Controversial opinions on metal

I agree with you there. It's like when a band is trying to be "progressive" they forget to actually write music they would enjoy. Same can go with tech stuff, though I still enjoy some of it.

    Gorguts vs. Meshuggah

Oh, you didn't know? A band's name is EXTREMELY relevant to the quality of that band's music. I have the thread to prove it.

    Controversial opinions on metal

So, would you prefer every metal band to rehash old material and always stay the same?

    Gorguts vs. Meshuggah

Yeah . . . I'm the idiot here. See that edit button? You can use that to correct mistakes when you type like a retard. Anyways, Gorguts. What a dumb fucking name.

Or, maybe it's just over your head, so you just resort to calling it shit.

    "Thinking" metal albums

Any Pain of Salvation, except Scarsick. Lyrically and musically, very thought provocative. Any Tool Album in my opinion would work. Opeth is a good band, definitely musically thought provoking if not lyrically. BIG thumbs up to Spiral Architect - never read the lyrics, but the music will make...

    Long songs.

Dream Theater . . . most of their songs aren't 10+ minutes, but there is no shortage of crazy solos. Between the Buried and Me's Colors has a lot of long songs, not a ton of solos, but crazy technicality.
