    Hardcore Superstar

Just out of curiosity...why do you say that? I do like sleaze rock, but didn't know I was known for it. I have to admit that I haven't gotten into Hardcore Superstar yet, but I would probably like them. EDIT: after seeing that video, I see why Brian was asking about me. Yep, good stuff, will be...

I didn't like "Death and Sufferage" that much. I liked the idea behind "Beautiful Things" quite a bit. I am only about a third of the way through the book, but so far I like it a lot.

I am reading David Wellington's "13 Bullets." He is offering it for free on his website. It is very fast-paced and brutal.

It was supposed to be on an upcoming weekend, until the city shut it down.

"Patient Zero" is definitely on my list - Jonathan Maberry is one of my "Dragon*Con all-stars," and I have heard some very good things about it. I read his "non-fiction" book "Zombie CSU" - basically a book of how a law enforcement agency would realistically handle a zombie outbreak, as well as...

Overall, it is very different than "World War Z." There are some stories with post-apocalyptic backdrops, but not all - which is perfectly fine with me, because an anthology that size benefits from different approaches. But some people were upset that it isn't all Romero homages. So far, it is...

St. Germain is that rarity in fiction: a compassionate, 100% "good guy" who is also believable as a "vampire." That Quinn's books languish in obscurity while other people have gotten rich off of the frontiers that she helped pioneer causes me a headache. Now reading myself: "The Living Dead,"...

I was thinking about reading that - let us know how it is.

    Dragon*Con 2009

I have no idea. They still haven't announced anyone, but thankfully my programming is not dependent on what bands get booked. Authors rule!

    Dragon*Con 2009

For those of you who are interested, I finally got my programming track write-up together - "Horror and Urban Fantasy converge on the Dark Fantasy track - Dragon*Con’s home for all things macabre, sinister, and downright weird. From authors to artists, metaphysicians to musicians, from...

Coraline is a stunning work of cinema. Plus, it's the kind of kids' movie they rarely make anymore - one that isn't afraid to scare kids! The 3-D enhances an already great movie, and shows why stop-motion animation is better suited to 3-D than computer animation.

Same here, although I liked it about as much as the other two. Unless someone particularly likes the characters played by Kate Beckinsale and Creed, I figure if you liked the others, you'll like this one. I was glad that my hero Viktor got more screentime in it than he got in the other movies...

As a quick aside, Gene Wolfe has been confirmed for Dragon*Con. I was so shocked that I made a phone call to me and Paul's friend Gopal (who is a Wolfe fan himself). So which book of his would be a good start? He falls outside my horror/urban fantasy track, but he is so respected that I would...

    CD Stores

It won't exist anywhere for much longer - Chattanooga's Circuit City began its death rattle this weekend. I just went there, in fact, and picked up Pearl Jam's greatest hits album, Pink Floyd's "Animals," and the Rolling Stones' "Sticky Fingers." As for Chattanooga, FYE and Best Buy is about...

I was disappointed with "Wicked" because it was touted as dark look at L. Frank Baum's "Oz," but Maguire was more influenced by the popular image of Oz via the MGM film. I liked the book when I finished it (and yeah, your observation makes sense, OrbWeaver), but have not been in a rush to read...
