Yep. The only thing comparable to combat training they get is 10mins of range time once a year to qualify on the M16/M4.

You can learn how to use a rifle/pistol better by watching online videos lol

They (theoretically) control firearms on these bases far too tightly. We're not having massive terrorist attacks in the middle of Fuck-All, Texas, and this is one of the biggest military bases anywhere - there's still investigation going on into how exactly he pulled this off.

Poor guy. It is sad to think that this person must have experienced deeply traumatizing things in his lifetime in order to lose his grip on reality so far as to murder 12 people.

I don't see how it would be too difficult. When comparing to our military service, if you really wanted to do something like that, it would be quite simple:

1) Pocket a handful of live rounds during every rifle range exercise, no one would notice since there's 20 people shooting at once and we are given about 80 - 120 rounds every session
2) When you have enough ammo, fill your magazines and just wait until the next formation rehearsal (the rifles are unlocked from the rack)
3) ?????
4) Profit?

:erk:

Well, it is just collateral damage.
It is the army, there are weapons, so it can happen.
Play with fire and you'll get your fingers burnt.

Careful who you say that to Jevo, you might end up with this:

Totally , something is really wrong with the system to make a psychiatrist go mental. On second hand being, an Army psychiatrist is a hell of of job.... lots of terrible problems derived from war can make you crazy i think.

I want to add in my 2 cents here.... Seems like lots of people here think the guy was 'nuts' or 'crazy'. Fact is, I don't think he was. A person that goes nuts and starts killing people usually does it unexpected, spur of the moment, like when you lose your job or get into a bad financial bind, etc...

From what I have heard already about this case, and what I've seen on it, this 'attack' was totally planned out in advance. It wasn't some guy going postal, it was an ATTACK. The guy didn't like the military, switched to the Muslim religion, and obviously took the path of a radical Muslim view(I had to add the term radical because I don't want people thinking that all Muslims are radicals, because they are not). He wanted a discharge because he was getting sent to Iraq and didn't want to go. Well this guy was an idiot, because as an officer he should know that a discharge is out of the question(4 years of college paid for buy the US taxpayer, maybe more if he was an actual doc).

The point I'm trying to get at is that this is a classic 'terrorist' attack. Not saying he was involved with any terrorist organization, but based on what he stood for it is what I would call a domestic terrorism attack. He killed those people to prove a point. He knew exactly where to go to kill people(a medical readiness center full of returning soldiers or soldiers about to be sent over). That building was full of civilians, yet he targeted only soldiers, and did so execution style.

If he was classic nut job, he would of gone to his place of work(pretty sure it was one of the bigger hospitals on base) and shot it up.

But in order to even get those radical Islamic beliefs fixed in your head, I suppose he was kinda crazy in that sense of the matter.

Damn I'm starting to ramble and get incoherent.

Good points...although I believe the fellow was already a Muslim. His parents were Palestinian if I remember correctly. I have read, however, that he was only devout within the past year, and that he never showed any signs of being involved with other extremists or radical Muslims. He came from a pretty well adjusted family too...lots of successful and integrated folk in his family.

And yes, it definitely was premeditated. Dude was not crazy for doing such a thing, even if it was a horrid and warped act. Hell, Dahmer was proven to not be crazy either if I'm not mistaken.
