It just felt like they regressed, like there was less creativity than Lateralus. That said, there WERE things on there I liked. I just wasn't impressed with the album as a whole the way I was with Lateralus.

I see. I wasnt sure if you were saying it was a travesty or not. I guess you're kinda right. It really doesn't have as much Toolyness as Lateralus did. But hey, at least we know they still exist.

I'm a major Tool head and I didn't like the new album either, only like 2 good songs off it...I said it before and I'll say it again, Maynard stop fucking around with that pussy ass band APC and focus on Tool for crying out loud..

My most anticipated releases are:
1. Blind Guardian - A Twist In The Myth
2. Iron Maiden - A Matter Of Life And Death
3. Megadeth - N/A
4. Symphony X - N/A

"Travesty" would be too strong. The "Wings for Marie"/"Wings Pt. 2" suite was impressive in an almost Opethian way. I was almost getting a vibe like some of the softer sections of Morningrise, especially "The Night and the Silent Water".

But to describe the whole album...I think "underwhelmed" would be the word for it. I felt like they should've shown more maturity, for one...I felt like they went for shock value instead of sophistication in some of the lyrics, and there was just too much similarity between many of the songs for them to stand out. And Maynard's vocals just weren't as dynamic.

It's one of those albums that I think will wind up being like Scenes from a Memory for me...some individual songs are good but I'm not sure I'll EVER warm up to listening to the whole thing in one sitting. I'm going to let it sit before I trade it in, though...I don't want to trade it and regret it later when I might like it more.
