2012 Presidential election thread

Yeap, now I know you're retarded. I was on the fence with pretty much everything else you've posted lately, but now it's confirmed. Stop posting please.
what the fucking hell is retarded about the idea of having a democrat president??? it's not like a republican president is actually going to fix any of america's problems that were caused by the last 3 republican presidents
He already singlehandedly trolled the Philosophy subforum to silence.

really?
that was me?
i'm responsible for the philosophy forum being silent?
which btw i didn't even notice

The democrats are just as corrupt as the republicans. They take legitimate issues like health care and global warming and transform them into schemes to suck money out of consumers and transfer them to corrupt businesses. Also, Obama has carried the torch on all of the worst "national security" injustices of the Bush years (Patriot Act, indefinite detention, extraordinary rendition, etc.) and added a few new ones (NDAA and whatever that bill is to allow Americans suspected of terrorism to lose their citizenship).

tldr: if you support either of the major parties, you're a victim of misinformation and should probably watch less TV news.

i actually understand and agree with what you're saying,
i never meant to say that democrat = really awesome
i just meant to say that democrat >>> republican
and also that the president is going to be one or the other, a third party president is really never going to happen

You really shouldn't make any general assumption that a given democrat is any better than a given republican. You have to look carefully at each person you vote for and whether they're known for accepting a lot of donations from businesses (a.k.a. corruption).

Also, assuming a third party president will never happen is just one of the many excuses people make to justify their political apathy. If more people gave a shit and started supporting organizations that are trying to reform the system (in my case i support a group called Americans Elect, and i'm also working on my own website project), we could eventually have meaningful choices in the elections.

the idea that a random democrat is going to be better than a random republican is based on studying the history of what happens to the country when a democrat is president and what happens to the country when a republican is president, if you're going to live in america, at least pay attention what's happening here

again
paying attention
a third party president is never going to happen
if you think a third party president will ever happen, i've got some ocean-side arizona property i'll sell you

I already pointed out some of the terrible shit that's happened under an Obama white house and Democrat controlled congress (subversion of the push for health care and environmental reform + worsening of the "national security" police state).

I don't remember much about past presidents, but iirc Bill Clinton helped make NAFTA possible, which seems to have amounted to selling out our standard of living to outsource our jobs to cheaper countries.

So yeah, you've got some explaining to do if you want to convince me that you're not just a partisan puppet.

the "terrible" under Obama wasn't really more than just obama sucking at trying to fix the crappiness of how bush jr fucked up the country

the american unemployment rate under bill clinton's administration was the lowest it had been in bill clinton's lifetime

the "outsourcing epidemic" was bush sr and bush jr

Yeah, an unemployment rate drop in no small part to changes in changes in methods of calculation and the tech bubble.

The budget deficit, already having skyrocketed under GWB, was inflated again under Obama, and corporate welfare abounded.

Corporatists, all of them.

So in other words you're just going to ignore everything the democrats are doing to destroy our economy and democracy, and pretend they're worth supporting just because "the republicans are worse".

Please don't vote.

I suggested that he not vote because he seems to be too blinded by partisan ideology to think critically about who he votes for.

Voting for the lesser of two evils is logical in the context of our worthless election system, but what's more logical is to support organizations working for reform. The amount of time and effort most people waste following the Presidential race is staggering compared to how little people spend doing things that actually matter like participating in new projects or spreading the word about new legislature that needs to be stopped.

Examples of what i'm talking about:
http://www.americanselect.org/
https://www.eff.org/action

I'm not trying to solicit here, but if you think i am then do your own research and find other websites worth using/supporting. This is the kind of stuff that matters, not the stupid Presidential race.
