4x12 Cab Shootout

I think the only one that doesn't sound great is the 5150 through the Krank. Beware of the smaller mesa cab w/ 5150 head tho--i bet you that if you ran this taste test with drums and bass in the background you guys would prefer the oversize...In my mixes the oversize always sounds better with 5150. That being said, the Krank amp sounded terrific through the small mesa.

To people asking about Matt's amp settings, don't forget that a huge part of the reason that it sounds great is because he played the riff well. BTW didn't steve smyth (woohoo bay area) write that riff?
 
Hey Matt,

I'm digging the Krank head/mesa traditional as well. Obviously it would be nice to hear each in a song context... but as standalone clips that's the one I dig the most as brightest and tightest.

How loud were you playing when you recorded this and what gear did you use to get it to disc other than the SM57?

I know all the guys from Mnemic two of them live 5 minutes from where i live, their drummer plays on our demo,i knew the new singer i Raunchy back in the old days i haven't met the rest of the band.Small world isn't it?
 
Dude, I got drunk as fuck with Mircea and Tomas when they were here with Soilwork... I can attest that Mnemic are some of the coolest dudes I've ever met. And Raunchy is bad ASS
 
My fave clip is the very first one.. the krank with the smaller mesa cab.

For a comparison - Here is my Krank revo100 with a boogie 1x12 with V30 mic'd with an Audix i5 and 4 heinkens in me.

i did not brickwall limit/digitally SLAM my clip like you did, and i didnt rip the nev riff, lol.... just some random quick noodling... i LIKE the krank for rhtyhm's.. but i hate it for leads.

Thanks, Matt. How loud were you playing when you recorded it? I mean, were you seeing/hearing speaker excursion... or was it more like conversational volume?
