A LIFE ONCE LOST, EPICUREAN, ION VEIN and ARISE AND RUIN COMPLETE LINEUP

Just having 2 great headliners isnt going to make it a great fest. You need a solid line up of true metal for that to happen. Most metalcore kids could care less about Testament and even Iced Earth. I think friday will be very empty until Iced Earth. The show will be packed and the bad part is that it will be seen as a great idea to have the metalcore acts when in fact it was Iced Earth that made the crowd show up.

The kids that listen to metal now are actually way more diverse than most of you would think. They are way more open minded then most people here, myself included. Hell, half the crowd at Exodus was 15 & 16 year old kids so of course they are gunna know who Testament & IE are. This fest is all about diversity and "metalcore" should be represented.

I seen Epicurean a few weeks ago...There a decent melodic death metal band that has a Into Eetrnity Vibe goin g on...Great players and some tastyhooks but live the singer was really offkey..he does both cleans and growl;s......being a sponsor i =can leave when i want and not being keen on those other metalcore bands i think i shall be hanging in the loft.........:kickass:

soprry about the more then usual bad text..lost a few digits on friday in a work accident

Shit that sucks. Hopefully you can still put up :headbang: horns!!

Epicurean sounds relatively decent. I do like some Into Eternity so I may look into them a little more. Love me some Ion Vein. The other, two, just listened to their Myspace pages and I am REALLY disappointed. Thank god for Testament or this would have been a skip year for me.

I love IE and I dont get the same attraction to them as I do IE

OK - my $0.05 review:

Epicurean - I likey! I can hear a little IE sound in their songs, but they have a nice little mix of death and black metal - it will be interesting to hear them live. I will be picking this up. This may be my Thurisaz for CPF 2008.

A Life Once Lost - OK, this is a big surprise for me. I am digging their newer songs they have on their myspace page (from Iron Gag). I can hear some Lamb of God influence in their sound, but it's not overbearing on the new stuff. On the old stuff - it is very blatant and the songs aren't as good. On the new stuff, they have this very interesting mix of LOG and someone like High on Fire. They have this really cool groove vibe to their new tunes. The songs aren't very fast, but the beat is very cool and their are *gasp* solos! I did not care for the last 2 songs on their page - I'm guessing it is older tunes - they carry the LOG worship a little too far.

Arise and Ruin - OK, this is not a big surprise to me. This is exactly what I think of when I hear metalcore. The very monotonous hardcore vocal style, the slow breakdowns, the tough guy attitude (just check out their myspace picture), no melody. I can just picture the karate kicks and punches flying now (or I can look at their myspace page and see it). Fortunately for me they play first and I can come in later.

Ion Vein - I've always liked these guys ever since I saw them at BWBK 2.

Good point. But how did you get 4? Ion Vein & Epicurean wouldn't be considered "metalcore". That makes 2 bands in that style, that's not that bad.

WOW, you beat me to the punch. I was going to say that exact same thing!

I realize Epicurean may have some metalcore elements...but I wouldn't consider them metalcore.

Ion Vein does NOT = metalcore at all.

I finally had the time to listen to these bands, aside for Ion Vein and Epicurean I can't say that they're something I listen too, 3 out of 5 for Friday aint bad for my taste.
Iced earth is what's gonna draw on Friday regardless of who was opening.

And that's what bothers me..
There are so many great US metal bands that are slowly gaining a following (IE - the Cruz Del Sur bands, Earache thrash revival bands, etc) that woud more benefit from playing this show.

Metalcore is already well represented on every damn major package tour in the states...

I made a similar point about Iron Maiden's current and past tours, that doesn't mean it's gonna happen.
I'm sure there's a really good reason why these bands are playing the fest, and by "good reason" I mean financially.

I always gathered from the brief conversations I have had with Rob both online and in person that he is more into metalcore than most genres these days. As I said, I have no problems with the specific bands themselves. He's a promoter, so he was able to book bands he wanted to see, esp with guaranteed headliners that draw....

It's not a risky choice, since ticket sales will do well regardless.

Maybe these bands will appeal to some....

Though any band just like these ones can be seen any night on a major tour at Pearl Room or House of Blues...

You can't see a band like Twisted Tower Dire, Cage, Agalloch, Nachtmystium, Avenger of Blood, etc every day of the week.
(Not meaning to be specific with these bands, more just as examples of hard working underground US bands)
