A new song for my band (6505 gain on 0.5! Mesa cab etc)

New song for my band

Guitars are PRS into 6505 into mesa cab, one 57 and Mackie Onyx preamp.

Mix is a bit rough right now, its just early really. Drums are S2.0

What do you think of the guitar tone?

Also if anyone cares, here is an older version (similar mix), using the gearbox plugin. Surprisingly similar I'd say. Just goes to show the difference the guitarist and guitar makes.

Not bad in any way, but not a fan of this kind of dark and modern tone.

The 0,5 gain thing is just crazy. I don't get how you can get this sound with gain on 0,5.

The song is cool.

I wish there was somewhere better for me to upload it.....

Tubescreamer was used, drive at about 10 o clock, gain at about 2 o clock tone at 12 o clock.

I think the darker tone can be attributed to the Mesa cab, as the settings on the amp are probably what I'd normally use. Cheers for the comment about the song, I'm really happy with this one! More feedback on the guitar tone would be cool, I haven't really decided if I like it or not....

That sounds fucking ill! I, too, don't understand how you get such a killer tone at 0.5 gain?

ps. the song is awesome too

Cheers guys, yeah the gain is low (I do it like this very often). Bear in mind that the tubescreamer is doing quite a bit of the work here. I actually had to lower the gain on the tubescreamer as it was too saturated to begin with and lowering the amps gain any further would result in no sound!

the tube screamer really lets your playing shine through! killer sound overall. I'm sure you could get some fantastic delay solos with that setting.

Thought I'd stick this version of the mix up. It was done just after we tracked the guitars, just using the gearbox plugin. I think it sounds pretty similar (obviously different). I think its more noticeable on some riffs than others that its a modeler.

I did very little post processing - hi and low pass filters, and a few small adjustments with URS CSP (biggest one was a 0.8dB difference).

Sounds fantastic Machinated!

Btw, which PRS model is the guitar? got any photos of it? I just can't get enough of PRS's! :D

Sounds cool also. I find the Gearbox clip to sound crispier (i mean guitars) and clearer, whereas the 5150 one is fatter and more polished sounding also.

I like the song and the lead stuff sounds cool also. Not a huge fan of the weird time signature in the last riff though (even if it can be seen as some kind of "the cd is a bit fucked so the same part is playing over and over with an interruption every time or something")

I also hear some Chimaira-ishness on some parts (similar riffing + tone).

did you reamp the guitars? if so then id imagine it sounds so gainy because your reamped signal is running into the tubescreamer at a higher level than it would normally be from a pickup

if not then you must pick pretty hard man!

nice mix by the way
