A stupid question about cross fade length

I was editing some DI guitar tracks when I had the thought "how long should the cross fade be anyway" I've always kept them pretty short, around 5ms. So I did some testing, a bunch of fades at 5ms or less and a bunch of long ones around 30 - 35ms. I honesty can't hear the difference.

Is there an approriate fade lenght? I don't want to go to the studio to reamp these and find out I've done something stupid while editing (though I'm sure that will happen I don't want it to be something as trivial as this).

I've been using 5ms for drums and guitar DI edits, well actually for everything. I generally can't tell the different like you said. I suppose the shorter the fade, the less chance of potentially getting a phase type issue occurring. If you had a really long fade, things might get weird.

good question...
i just do what i now know 'looks right' then check it.
on guitars generally pretty dang short
