About Opeth's Mics

is there anyone who knows which mics do opeth use for vocals and for instruments?and preamps?

I would imagine whatever is available in the studio at the time.

Funny story from Lopez on Lamentations about the guy they recorded Deliverance and Damnation with switching microphones on his drumkit in that first studio. That was awesome.

Check the Lamentations documentary... there's clips of mike singing into mics, and a few drumkit shots with mics. No cabinet mic shots though, as far as I can tell.

in documentary part of lamentations, what we see is the mic which they use for recording, must be sth expensive.but i need the mic which they use in their live performances.shown in:

but this one is really f.cked up, so could someone check the "concert" part of Lamentations for me?or i can tell you that's a mic similar to shure sm58 but there isn't any writing on it.

damn i've found.we were recording at the studio and i saw the same mic. shure beta58a!that's what they use as vocal mics in their live performances.

I happen to know which guitar pickups they use since I'm into buying pickups
for my guitar at the moment.

However, I already knew that they had Seymour Duncan pickups and on SD's
site it clearly says:

Mikael Åkerfeldt / Opeth
Pickup Models : SH-10b

Peter Lindgren / Opeth
Pickup Models : SH-12, SH-2n​

Notice that Peter has got a SH-2 pickup - same as I'm having.
I actually didnt know that before I bought!

Isn't that just the standard SM-58 ? I mean, it is a live show, and he is a singer, so why not.

no; it's not sm58, i'm sure about that.it's a beta 58a.maybe you don't know but there are better series than sm of shure for live performances and the beta series are one of them.just because there's no feedback, it's supercardioid etc. etc.

but how about instrument mics?i couldn't see the instrument mics in the Istanbul concert on their Marshall amps...

The mic in the pic IS an sm57, im telling you.

The Beta series look different.

Most bands use SM57's for guitar cabinets live, and it's most common for heavy guitars in the studio as well.

The Microphone he's singing in is a Shure SM58 in that live picture. The Beta 58 has a blue band around it and slightly different shape and color. SM58 are more common in live performances than the beta series. I do live sound engineering by the way

And for the person who said he's singing in a SM57... He's definately not:

It's not as uncommon as you might think... The last few times I've seen Motorhead, Lemmy was singing into one. But he's special

The Moonspell vocalist uses a Shure SM57 for vocals in all of their videos... it really is THE all-around mic.... although I only use it for guitar/amp mic'ing.

Edit: Oh, High On Fire also use the SM57 for vocals...

57's and 58's are basically the same mic in mechanics.

True. I'm on quite a tight budget so I bought the SM57 because it can record everything and anything. I will use it for instruments soon but for now its vocals recording abilities are awesome. It's the first time I ever listened to my voice and said "that is EXACTLY how I hear my voice".
