All that Wintersun has given your ears AIDS.
hahahahaha I am certainly LOL'ing at this. This thread is a completely success.

edit: I suppose that should be L-ingOL or something. At this point I should have just typed out the actual words.

BtWM > AstNB

But both are excellent! And that style is much better than their recent stuff.

I'm sorry, but I don't like this AT ALL. I turned the CD off after the first 3 tracks. Ugh, I like it even less than I remember!

The first track doesn't get started until 5 minutes in, but when it does it's just that deep rumbly stuff that does absolutely nothing for me. JK says that there is "too much going on" but I believe it's the exact opposite. These "riffs" (if you can really call them that) neither establish atmosphere nor keep me interested in the movement of the songs. As far as the vocals go, they hardly vary at all from the (IMO) dull, unemotional growl that is present on every single song. I usually hate hardcore vocals for the exact same reason.

Track 2 has a pretty nice riff, nothing special. And when the aforementioned "Warrior of the Crescent Moon" kicks in with that acoustic intro, I really got excited. "Finally," I thought, "we're gonna have a kickass track!" And then... boom, nice heavy riff. And then those creepy-crawly keyboards kick in at the 2 min mark and things are looking really good. But then we have the return of the GODDAMN ATONAL VOCALS!!! And another boring rumble-riff underneath them. But then... high-pitched screaming... finally a variation in the vocal department! Soon enough, return of the rumble-riff and the characterless growls. Then another rumble riff that doesn't really evoke anything other than monotony. This continues until the 7 minute mark and we finally have something that sounds like melody. But that ends soon enough. By the 8 minute mark I'm ready to fall asleep, but then we get the "outro" section that's probably the best part of the song. Nothing spectacular, nor all that evocative. I mean... Haven't most of us heard "Stormblast"? Not to say that Dimmu Borgir is a better band than Aeternus, but I don't really think there's anything about the last 2 minutes of the song that really makes it stand above any other extreme metal with fluttery keyboards. And then it's over. It leaves me wondering whether or not I'm even listening to the same song that everyone else is. I've listened to this song 4 times today and I can't really discern anything about it to make me want to listen to it again.

You know, if it weren't for "Sworn Revenge" and "Sentinels of Darkness", I'd probably never listen to this band at all.

Well, as the thread title suggests, you know what you have to do...

...although not sure why "Sworn Revenge" or "Sentinels" would differ much from your assessment so it doesn't even make sense that you would draw from 2 Aeternus songs and ignore the rest!

When are you going to make a trade/sale list btw of all those hundreds of CDs you bought a while back. I can't imagine how many CDs you have collecting dust!! Sell them off!!!1

 Sorry man, just not not my cup-a.

Because of the TRIUMPHANT melody in "Sworn Revenge" that makes me want to glide over icy waters with frigid winds at my back and, with the glinting of steel in my hand, slaughter my enemies that await on the shore. You know, what this sort of music is supposed to do.

 I don't know if it was hundreds. I'm not exactly Markgugs, you know.

You're right, I have a shitload of music (a lot of it black metal) that I don't listen to enough that I bought for $5 a disc on ebay. And a lot of weird stuff from the local music store that the radio station unloaded for 50 cents apiece. Believe it or not, I try to listen to nearly everything I own.

Yeah, a SELL list is in due order. This time there'll be a lot more than crappy power metal and CoB.

Actually, you could apply that to the first 3 Aeternus CDs in their entirety!

I don't know if it was hundreds. I'm not exactly Markgugs, you know.

Oh come on, there was a time when you were posting 5-10 CD hauls every other day in the "latest purchases" thread! Make that sale list beeyotch!

I admit, for about a 5 month period in late 2003, I spent ALL my money that didn't go to food on CDs. And I blame it on this fucking message board and that my parents gave me too much money my freshman year.

The thing is, I HATE getting rid of stuff/throwing stuff away. I can barely find the heart to take songs of my iTunes library!
