Affordable 7-string.

Most people swap the pickups out of Ibanez axes anyways...thats kinda the charm of them. I'm sure they are generally decent considering how many people use the 7321's...that was pretty much all Broderick used for a long time. Basing on whether a guitar is to be avoided or not based on thier pickups is kinda silly, since most people tend to leave em or swap em...it's like saying don't buy a specific car because you don't like the tires.

+1

The LTD SC-207 could also be an option... plus you could just swap some 707's in it without further routing it and such...

I picked up a 7 for £90! And for the money it's a great guitar, tried it out through an Engl Fireball and it doesn't sound bad either.

There's some ridiculously cheap guitars available with build quality far beyond their price point. The quality of some of the stuff coming from asian factories just gets better and better. Check out the german Ebay store "Beatbacker" for some examples. Up until recently they were selling thru-neck 7 string guitars for under £150!

Nowhere in my post does it even say "AVOID THE THE RG7321 COS CRAP PICKUPS ROFL".
I said the pickups are crap, but I didn't say avoid the guitar for that reason.
I have an RG 7421 and the stock pickups aren't that good, but I still bought it. Why? Because for the price it plays like a muthafucker, it's got a resonant body and it's well built.
You didn't read the part where it said "are absolute crap compared to the MIJ models". Obviously that implies I'm talking about overall quality control and consistency.
If you ever play an RG 7420/7421/7621/7620 next to an RG 7321, the 7321 is a heap of shit.
The 7321 feels like a toy compared to the MIJ stuff. There are heaps of 7321s that have terrible fretwork. The fretboard on the 7321 is simply not as easy to play as an MIJ model.
It's that thing that's hard to explain, but guitarists now it when they pick up a guitar. You can automatically feel if a guitar is built better by a certain feel, and anyone should be able to tell the 7321 is not a quality instrument.
If you can find one on sale or used, great.
But it's not worth paying the full price for a guitar like that when you score a used MIJ Ibanez for the same price.

I usually add the cost of new pickups to a guitar when I'm looking at one, unless it comes with what I want already. Stock pups being junk should not be a reason to dismiss it as an option, you are really missing out on what could possibly be the perfect axe for you if you do that.

AGAIN, read my post and you'll see I was implying quality control issues, not the stock pickups being crap.

+1 for a 7421/7621. My first seven was a RG7421 and I still regret selling it. It played really well and wasn't very expensive, cost me about the same as a used RG7321. It played and sounded loads better than a RG7321 though. It already had an Evo 7 in the bridge too, so I didn't need to replace the pickups.

All Schecter 7 strings I played were good even cheap Demon and Damien. I personally have C7 and I am happy with it. If you play Schecter I think you should go for Schecter as backup.

What you said originally, which was:
"I'm an Ibanez dude, and I'd say, unless you can score a used RG 7321 for a good deal that has been modded, avoid them, because they are absolute crap compared to the MIJ models. The stock pickups are terrible."...
Was easily interpreted into "AVOID THE THE RG7321 COS CRAP PICKUPS ROFL". Sorry if your meaning was taken as such, but what you said and what you seem to have meant were obviously not the same...since I had people agreeing with me on the subject. We read what you said: MIJ wasn't the focus point.

7620's are still going for more than the price of a 7321 anyways...

I "pmed" him, so that's a information I got from him, he used an old Jackson 6 string that was completely taped, too.
There was a video he did online about recording and stuff, used the RG7321 for that, too I think.
Chris Broderick used that guitar, too, yes, nowadays he plays his Custom RGA7 or his custom S (6 string) imho.

Honestly, if you're comfortable with a Hellraiser, you probably wont like an Ibanez, because the neck size and profile difference is quite pronounced, best to score either an Agile or another Hellraiser.

totally agree. Almost all ibanez stock pups are terrible. I scored an RG8527 Jcus and put blackouts in it :D some may say im crazy but i dont care about the routing because i know only I am going to be the one playing it and its what i wanted. Will put some bareknuckles in when i get the money. I'd go for the RG7420 if you can find one,id probably say the neck on that was close to/better than my j cus. Schecter by and large suck imo,i've been keen to try the 7 String blackjack but im just not a fan of most of the fat necks they have on them

RG 7620s go for, hmm 500-700ish USD, it's true they aren't as cheap as an RG 7321.
I scored my RG 7421 for 250 USD. The fretwear looked like it had been played for 2 years, despite being a 10 year old guitar and had two small dings, otherwise everything about it absolutely destroyed a brand new RG 7321.
And unfortunately the only really good 7 strings Ibanez make are way overpriced.
In Australia the RG 1527 goes for 2899 AUD.
For about 500 bucks less, I can score a custom made RG style guitar with BKP, Stainless frets, mahogany, and various other personal options. When you can score a custom made guitar for less than a brand new stock guitar, something tells me Ibanez need to seriously lower new guitar prices.

yet another totally boring lookin LTD - looks like something every boring deathcore band would play
