Affordable 7-string.

Nowhere in my post does it even say "AVOID THE THE RG7321 COS CRAP PICKUPS ROFL".
I said the pickups are crap, but I didn't say avoid the guitar for that reason.
I have an RG 7421 and the stock pickups aren't that good, but I still bought it. Why? Because for the price it plays like a muthafucker, it's got a resonant body and it's well built.
You didn't read the part where it said "are absolute crap compared to the MIJ models". Obviously that implies I'm talking about overall quality control and consistency.
If you ever play an RG 7420/7421/7621/7620 next to an RG 7321, the 7321 is a heap of shit.
The 7321 feels like a toy compared to the MIJ stuff. There are heaps of 7321s that have terrible fretwork. The fretboard on the 7321 is simply not as easy to play as an MIJ model.
It's that thing that's hard to explain, but guitarists now it when they pick up a guitar. You can automatically feel if a guitar is built better by a certain feel, and anyone should be able to tell the 7321 is not a quality instrument.
If you can find one on sale or used, great.
But it's not worth paying the full price for a guitar like that when you score a used MIJ Ibanez for the same price.
Why do you keep comparing rg7321 to MIJ models? My rg7321 is MIJ...

Thanks! It seems most people mistake the 7321 for the 7421 as I got this guitar being sold as a 7321 (I bought it used in 2001 or 2002). Now I am looking for some bridge pickups but I am still uncertain which to choose

Dimarzio Blaze Custom, Blaze, D-Sonic and Evolution are good for basswood.

and what about those Seymour Duncan blackouts people seem to be jerking off to a lot lately? :p

If you like a more compressed sound, go for EMG. If you're like me and don't particularly like that much pickup compression, get Blackouts or passives.
EMGs are cool if you play nothing but metal and I wont deny they work because some of my favorite tones are EMG (This Godless Endeavor, a lot of the KSE rhythm tones etc), but I play funk, blues rock and some other stuff too, and with the lower gain settings needed for some styles I don't think EMGs sound particularly good and aren't responsive enough to pick attack due to the compression.

Ultimately try them out for yourself and see what works most for you, I don't know exactly what your playing style is like.
I like Seymour Duncans, but a lot their passive pickups don't sound good in basswood to me, except the Full Shred.

well yeah, I play mostly metal. I was considering the EMG 707 but I found out some time ago that to get them fit in my guitar the luthier would have to cut wood and change the circuits or something like that. I am just not sure if I should go through all that trouble, maybe there are similar pickups that won't demand raping my guitar for them to be installed.
The thing about testing pickups is that I don't think it's very possible in here (Argentina). There's not a big availability of pickups in the usual music stores, so that's why I kind of have to rely on people's opinion :/

i know what u mean i live in Venezuela (Wich i think its worst in this case than Argentina) i think u could get a blackout phase 2 (Or phase 1 not sure) that is routed for normal style pickups...

BTW: Grande Messi

Ibanez 7321's are supposed to be built pretty well, and they've recently released a new one with a cool finish on it as opposed to the standard gloss black of all the normal ones.

I'm sure if you checked ebay you'd be able to find some cheap used Ibanez however, like some discontinued RG7420 or RG7620...they're supposed to be really good.

This is kind of a weird question because I consider Schecter's most expensive guitars to be the best 'affordable' 7 strings on the market! :D I own 2 myself.

the 7321's SUCK. My friend managed to pick up a 7620 for £250 in a local music shop...the necks are so good like close to/if not better than some of the j custom 7's just without the binding and the easier access to the higher end of the neck. Yeah if you're gonna go for ibanez go for the older models otherwise there isn't much point.

I don't think they suck at all....the dude I just started jamming with has a 7321 and I've played it a bunch of times, to me it plays just fine. I think changing the tuners and a pickup swap are pretty much mandatory but all in all it has a decent neck with great action and the fact that it's basswood doesn't bother me all that much. Now I will say that prefer my Prestige RGA way more but hey I'm actually thinking about picking one of these up myself for a spare guitar.

Yeah, I think so. I guess I'll start looking for opinions again when I have the money :/

off-topic: jaja, tengo menos fútbol yo... :p (igual se quién es, eh, jaja)

It's not so much they suck by default, but the build quality between the guitars can vary considerably.
I've played some RG 7321s that are decent, and I've played some that are absolute dogs (poorly done fret ends, rough finishing etc).
None of the RG 7321s I've played could touch my 7421 though, the RG 7421 is a world ahead in playability and construction, not a surprise since it was Japanese rather than Indonesian made in the case of the 7321.
Personally I hate the neck profile on the 7321s compared to the 7421s too.
If you get a good one, they are decent at the very least (7321s)
The RG 7620 is easily going to be better than a 7321 though, one is a lower end MII guitar, the other what was at the time one of the higher end MIJ guitars

MIM ? Made in Mexico ? Made in Marruecos ?

Sorry, I meant MII, not MIM. No Ibanez guitars are made in Mexico as far as I know.
