After The Burial - In Dreams

after a few listens, I've come to conclude that I really don't like the album. The mix is great, but the songs are very boring, IMO. This is probably one of my favorite bands. "Bread Crumbs...." had me hooked, but aside from that, there are a few good riffs/breakdowns, but its all starting to sound the same....

1-00-0--1-00-00-1-0-0-00........

the end of the 2nd to last song....where band is tacet and guitars go back and forth....I dig that. You can hear the string noise and whatnot too, when they mute the strings...sounds human. :kickass: but 15/16ths of the song before the breakdown is...ugh....something about the emo-type vocals that just make me want to punch emo kids in the face.

Rareform definitely kicked the shit out of this album musically. The riffs and songs were much more original and not as poppy. They now sound like they are trying way too hard to be catchy and grab some 16 year old fans.

But the MIX, is fuckin RAD. GREAT JOB! I also wish they had this mix for Rareform, that would be worth rebuying IMO.

First, thanks for this, the mix fuckin rocks!

Since my "preorder" is constantly on a plane(for about 2 weeks) I downloaded it and I'm stoked!

This album will escort me a long time...

I didn't think it was possible for this band to sound any more generic. Real nice guitar tone though. Wish the rest of the mix was quite as interesting as the guitar tone.

Nice to see someone going for a condenser over a 57 as well. Any time I have used a condenser to record guitars I have been overjoyed with the results :)

It is worth to get into this record!

Seriously, the second track(Your troubles will...) is the heaviest song I know.

It shows Periphery and others who the motherfucker is, sound and arragement(riff) wise...

On my studio monitors it slays even more, once again Jocke: Fantastic job!!!

It's definitely a heavy song, but you should really check out the last album Rareform if you like the music on this album. The music on In Dreams is kinda toned down... overall not as technical or heavy as the last album.

Mix sounds much better than any of their previous stuff. Guitar tone is cool but not awesomely perfect... a bit dry/scratchy in the high mids... especially when you hear one side on its own.

Rareform is one of a few records I listen continuesly to.
It's an alltime favourite for me, love it.

But I kinda get where these fellas wanna go with In Dreams, imo...

Just sayin that if you liked Rareform, it's def worth a try to get into In Dreams:)

The cool thing is that you will never get an awesomely perfect guitar tone, atleast not for everyone. Always chasing and hunting;)

Not trying to bash the band, just thought this was funny.

Periphery one is the best. DREAMS.

About In Dreams, I liked this album because for the very first time the vocals didn't sound awful to me. The mix is a lot tighter and tamed than the previous one, and that's definitely an improvement considering their sound. Sure, they made this album a tad more mainstream than Rareform, but at least we didn't get more and more of the same until we got fed up with it. Unlike Arsis' new stuff, the style change wasn't a complete disaster and the songs are, if anything, catchy.

It's different, but it's good different.

Hey Jocke, if you don't mind me asking:
I listen to the record pretty much daily and I ask myself everytime whats up in the mastering chain?!
It's loud but not crushed, very tasteful mastered(the whole album kinda breathes from track to track very differently). It sounds like there is no limiter involved, the transients are so clear and crisp.
