Oh, the vocals are what definitely make Pagan Altar an acquired taste.
I posted their name as a band that to me (at least) is not 100% Sabbath worship. I am fine with this, as it is very cheap and easy for non-doom fans to throw out the Sabbath tag. Personally, I don't hear any Ozzy in this guy's voice whatsoever, but so be it.
No need to apologize for disagreeing. It's totally cool.
I certainly don't expect a lot of agreement on the doom genre in general.
I am just happy that a lot more people seem open to it than before.
Just like how many years ago, bands like Iced Earth had to go overseas for big tours, many US doom bands do the same today.

Sorry man, I simply do not see the Ozzy connection, but as I said before, it's an easy and lazy (no offense) comparison for any non-doom fan to make.
Anyhow, it's music, and it's subjective, so if you cats hear the Ozzman, than so be it. This dude is certainly as ugly as Ozzy. Ha!

Yeah, don't get me wrong Jason. I actually like this, I'm just saying to the average pp person, most likely will pass on this. But you are right, people seem to be getting a bit more open-minded in terms of bands. Agreed it isn't 100 percent Sabbath worship but it is Sabbath-sounding.

To be honest, a lot of people who say they don't like Sabbath have not heard much beyond the Paranoid album.
Furthermore, what is more disturbing, is how many fans are unfamiliar with the Tony Martin era, as that is some of the finest heavy metal ever recorded.

I'm with you, Jasonic. I sure hope that WHW opens up good melodic doom metal for this festival. Just one band from that style each year would be awesome.

Absolutely. Eternal Idol and especially Tyr are what I'd consider power metal classics.
anyone still think they'd be given a chance if they busted out this? I just imagine people flocking to the door. Frankly, I love this shit.

I will admit to being a latecomer to discovering Tony Martin.
Just not something I bothered looking more into, until about 5 years ago.
I purchased SEVENTH STAR (on vinyl!!) when it first came out.
Yea, that pretty much ended my interest in Sabbath.

I think a lot of it comes down to the bad press those discs got because it wasn't Dio or Ozzy or even Geezer (if I remember correctly from some of those albums?) It isn't until recently I took a listen to these and now truly don't understand why people bitched about them.
Btw DCCowboys, who was actually bitching about Sabbath on here? Bob was just saying Pagan Altar was Sabbath worship, which doesn't exactly = not liking Sabbath. There just are a lot of bands that heavily copy what they do, doesn't mean people dislike Sabbath. Though I guess now Angrarules is one.
And I agree Jason, a lot of people tend to equate Sabbath to strictly being Paranoid stuff or for Dio-era Heaven and Hell, but their better material tends to be the overlooked stuff like Sabotage and even Vol. 4.

Yeah, I can see this being 50 / 50 in terms of going over well with the Prog Power crowd. There is a major difference between "Prog Metal" and metal bands that are truly "Progressive"
For that matter, one could argue that a band like Nachtmystium would be a fit for Prog Power.
Anyhow, as I said before, I think its cool that many around here are open minded to checking out new things.
