Airged L'amh - The SIlver Arm

Not that I'm a big fan of the band or anything, but from what I remember, Airged L'amh sounds nothing like what I would call "gay euro power metal," which to me is not "power metal bands I don't like" but actually has a sound, which I most commonly associate with Sonata Arctica. Airged L'amh is more in the traditional metal, old school side of things, from recollection.

Well Gay Euro Power Metal does stem from some Traditional/Epic Metal influences.... but that doesn't make it Traditional Epic Metal. The singer sounds gay, the riffs are strongly rooting in that typical Euro galloping style, and to top if off (if they weren't gay enough), they throw in more keyboards on this new album.

I'll throw them a bone, they're a little heavier than most of the Euro Trash out there.

Okay, I'm listening to "Fate Of The King" on their myspace right now, and if this is Gay Euro Power Metal, then so is Ironsword, Holy Martyr, Liege Lord, Omen, etc. You're nuts, Tim.

Those riffs and guitar tone are not like IRONSWORD, HOLY MARTYR, etc... These bands play with THICK, RIPPING GUITAR RIFFS, not weak, limp wristed, lightweight, high end-y treble Euro gallop riffs.

Then, I'm nuts (not the first time someone called me that)... But I'm not buying into THEM, STEEL ASSASSIN, AXEHAMMER, or anything else along those lines trying to be passed off as True Metal.

I've always had the minority opinion.... and I like it that way.

Btw, do you hear any GAY keyboards in Ironsword, Holy Martyr, Liege Lord, Omen, etc.? Not to say all keyboards are gay (I do like keys with some albums, just depends on how they sound and if they add anything to it) ... but it's a fine line to tread upon sometimes. One band that did their keys right was OLD SEASON (imo).

I'm going by one song...and there was absolutely nothing weak, limp wristed, lightweight, or high end-y treble about it. I don't have any problem with the guitar tone, either, it sounds pretty standard fare for Trad Metal. I would call Adramelch "Gay Euro Power Metal" a lot sooner than I would label this the same, they sure sound a lot more limp wristed and have a weaker guitar tone. And as far as Steel Assassin goes...they're not the greatest, but they're certainly not "gay." There's a difference between a Trad Metal band you don't like and a Gay Euro Power band. I mean, it's a lot better of a 'comeback' than Sacred Oath was able to muster, yet I've heard more praise for that album than for Steel Assassin. Please don't tell me you also think that Steel Assassin sounds like Dream Evil like UP THE HAMMERS!!! does, that was one of the most retarded things I can remember reading in recent memory.

The way I see it is that there's going to be a lot of bands mentioned that boarder the TRUE METAL circle and EURO POWER METAL circle... those gray area bands can be debated forever and it does comes down to perspective. Festivals like KIT include both TRUE METAL and EURO POWER METAL and I think that's what helps blend some of these bands in the same circles. I was a bit harsh on them only because I really don't like them or any/most of these bands along the lines, but most of the harsh-ness is more comical than serious.

I can't pinpoint exactly what this band's influence is, but it sounds more like influences from Dickinson era MAIDEN, BLIND G, HELLOWEEN, which is a recipe for more of the EURO POWER METAL circle.

But I can pinpoint what influenced IRONSWORD and HOLY MARTYR.. the masters MANILLA ROAD, OMEN, EXCITER, CIRITH UNGOL, BROCAS HELM... big difference, imo.

Airged Lamh is epic trad metal with thrash/speed & celtic influences, tasteful keys, and a bunch of ass kicking.

That's all that needs to be said. Everything else is superfluous.

Well the first 7 Iron Maiden albums, Kai-fronted Helloween, and Blind Guardian up to Nightfall In-Middle Earth (especially the first 2 albums) are all great, so if that's your conception of Euro Power Metal, then Euro Power Metal is fucking amazing, even better than US Power Metal.

Not me, I'll take US METAL over EURO stuff anyday....

Nobody in Europe can touch these fab 4...
