So I noticed quite a few people say that Nine feet has recommended them some really good shit.. Well I made this thread specifically so Nine feet could maybe recommend some of the best artists he knows of.. Of course other people are welcome to recommend stuff too though...

Check out most of the old prog threads.

true but I thought it would be good to have his top picks all in one place and if I asked him directly, no one else would benefit..

what genre? give me some parameters, my time isnt endless, but id be glad to help.

Well I'll tell you a few of my current favourite bands & maybe that will give you an idea of what I like?? OK, Obviously Opeth, Symphony X, The Beatles, Tool, Dredg, Children of Bodom..

So I guess I mainly like progressive music that is done well.. Kinda broad I guess but I like a wide range of stuff....

well, i wont recommend anything like symphony X or children of bodom, for id be wasting both of our time. Heres a handful of interesting bands which have been doing wonders for me lately...

Weakling
Flasket Brinner
Sixteen Horsepower
Enslaved
Liquid Scarlet
The Gault
Trettioariga Kriget
Esoteric
Resurrection
Schaliach
Egg
Extradition
Mr. Toad
Abigor
Scott Walker
Xasthur
Evoken
Martin McFaul
Vashti Bunyan

Cool thanks very much, How easy is it to get CDs by these bands? I live in New Zealand and our record stores are pretty shitty when it comes to having more underground type stuff...

well, im not terribly familiar with the availability of anything in kiwi-land, however most those things i recommended are available on the net to buy no problem. as far as regular record stores i couldnt say.

www.mellotronen.com
www.amazon.com
www.theendrecords.com
www.freakemporium.com
www.redstream.org
www.ebay.com
www.half.com
www.napalmrecords.com
www.aquariusrecords.com

those should cover most of the bases.

in addition to what NFU said (he knocked out all the top choices)
(pre-emptive stfu to him because he'll inevitably say that he is solely responsible for anyone knowing about any of these bands)

also these are all metal

Summoning
Keep of Kalessin
Akercocke (newest album)
Dawn
Arcturus
Dodheimsgard
Quo Vadis
Psycroptic
Mekong Delta
Ved Buens Ende
Leviathan
Sacramentum
Samael (old)

i know almost all of the bands illidurit listed (except Psycroptic and Mekong Delta) but only four of the ones NFU listed (Enslaved, Esoteric, Xasthur, Abigor).

i will also throw in:

sunno)))
khanate
abyssic hate
nortt
immolation
