ALBUM/BAND RECOMENDATIONS ATTN NINE FEET

Maybe you could help me out with some funeral doom.I've heard quite a few bands never really liked or understood funeral doom.Bands like shape of despair, tyranny and evoken I've heard long before- I can listen to them sometimes but id chose other music over them.Though 2 albums I listen to frequently from last year I consider are funeral doom (?):-

Panthiest-Amartia
Remembrance-frail visions

anything similar to them that I can start of with ?
Also anything in the lines of Mar De Grises -though I doubt you like this sort of doom.

what else? you couldnt have checked out all those bands in their entirety yet. all in good time.

and i havent bothered to check out the new cannibal corpse yet, but ive been meaning to get around to it eventually. i havent been happy with that band in a VERY LONG time...id rather listen to most the other DM staples just about everytime.

Okay...then please can you tell me those other DM staples becuz some of my friends thinks that CC is the best brutal/death band on the planet.
if u can give 10 albums i will be grateful.

death - individual thought patterns
morbid angel - covenant
resurrection - embalmed existence
suffocation - effigy of the forgotten
deicide - self titled
disincarnate - dreams of the carrion kind
obituary - cause of death
dismember - like an ever flowing stream
massacre - from beyond
vader - ultimate incantation

obviously theres more...but this is a good list of 10 classic death metal staples from that era of all different approaches and styles.

mar de grises are amazing, ive never heard a band quite like them, can u suggest some that do 9fu?

i wish i could, but i cant. mar de grises are one of those great and diverse bands in the doom genre that really are pretty unstoppable and unique right now. you can trace bits back to disembowelment, thergothon and my dying bride...but you can also hear a lot of evoken and esoteric and the like in their sound at times too. so i cant really recommend too many doom bands that "sound like" mar de grises...but im glad about that. either way...mournful congregation and catacombs are 2 other doom bands you may want to explore, i recommend both highly. that is if you have already checked out "asunder"...the great sludge/funeral doom band by john gossard, the phenominal mastermind behind weakling and the gault...one of the most important and mysterious musicians in current metal easily.

edit: kinda foolish of me, but i forgot to mention a great semi unique and emotive doom band somewhat in the mar de grises/my dying bride style which is "The Prophecy"...very neat stuff, definitely check them out too.

If you like funeral doom and don't mind ambient, you'd do fairly well to check out Stijn Van Cauter. He has like 10 different "projects", but my personal favorite is probably Fall Of The Grey-Winged one. His music seems very love-it-or-hate-it though, as i've seen him heralded as anything from genius to "some fag playing with a keyboard and playing the same power chord over and over"

(not to you mumble, youre probably already aware...but for those who inquired): Zaraza is also an interesting up and coming band in the doom/electronic/ambient/industrial sound. hard to pigeonhole really...but pretty cold and sinister stuff. i beleive the band themselves have all their material available for free download, so no reason not to check that out.

Not sure if they've been mentioned, but Scissorfight's new album Jaggernaut rules. Not that I expected anything less than this. Great band.

Thanks,I've got a couple of disembowelment albums (mp3s) & I was very impressed with them from the first time I heard them ,the only complain is production but which is understandable,I havent heard them for a long time ill try and give them another listen soon.

I've never heard of ataraxie and fleurety-any place where I could get their mp3s? also october falls?,I've heard a couple of samples but I wasnt too impressed ,though Id like to give the whole album a try since im getting into this sound.

There's been talk about Shape of despair and no one mentioned Skepticism i think- Shape of despair sound just like a rehash of Skepticism to me.

ataraxie has a myspace with several mp3 streams available on it. fleurety is pretty obscure, i dont think youll be able to find mp3s or samples outside of things like soulseek or buying the album.

i beleive i mentioned skepticism, but maybe i didnt. shape of despair is similar to skepticism, but much more refined and synth based i find...skepticism is truly for funeral doom fans, not just anyone id say.

Any other place besides myspace ? unfort. I live in a place where they block sites if there is anything they belive is anti-cultural or religious and myspace is blocked.I'll still try and look through for fleuerty.Yeah i dont reallyhave much idea about funeral doom its just what i heard in shape of despair sounded like ive already heard it through skepticism before.
