ALBUM/BAND RECOMENDATIONS ATTN NINE FEET

the analog sound is sweet though. i don't like to get caught up in comparing analog and digital and holding them against eachother. its like hating boca patties because they don't taste like meat. but, there is definetely an organic quality that an analog instrument has. i especially noticed when i heard it in person.

Anyone ever hear Frostmoon Eclipse. They are Italian. I ordered the Dead and Forever Gone album. It is all acoustic, not like their others which are growling and crap. Seriously, check out the new one as it is much more mature than the rest.

Hey NFU, give me a few recommends, some of the stuff you said before is indeed awesome. Here are some of my favs -

abigor
amorphis
arcturus
at the gates
blut aus nord
borknagar
burzum
celtic frost
diabolical masquerade
edge of sanity
enslaved
evergrey
immortal
katatonia
ulver
vintersorg

As you can see, I like a lot of very evil or scary sounding black metal, and I'd like more since the board generally respects your opinion. Suggestions are appreciated.

well, i rattled off a ton of bands that fit a similar description to the ones you just listed. id say exhaust those first...and then ill post some more. otherwise this will get out of hand and ill just end up name dropping tons of bands that people are going to be too overwhelmed to check them all out. pace yourselves people. but ill re-recommend some of those using your new requested criteria of "evil" or "scary"...

xasthur
nortt
bethlehem
leviathan
keep of kalessin
thorns

all those are pretty sinister in their own right, check them out first...

well, for classic jazz...its almost easier than metal or rock, seeing as theres not a whole lot of "elitism" to be found, and most fans can unanimously agree on the heavy favorites. heres some essentials to get you going...

John Coltrane - Blue Train
Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue
Sonny Rollins - Saxaphone Colossus
Charles Mingus - Mingus Ah Um
Art Blakely - Moanin
Charlie Parker - Bird And Diz
Hank Mobley - Soul Station
Dexter Gordon - Go
Eric Dolphy - Out To Lunch
Lee Morgan - Sidewinder
Thelonious Monk - Brilliant Corners
Chet Baker - My Funny Valentine
Herbie Hancock - Maiden Voyage
Wayne Shorter - Speak No Evil

Since everyone's been asking & you seem to know more bands than most maybe you could get me into some bands as well,or infact even if anyone else could.

I've been Hooked onto Uaral's music since I heard them last year and I have never heard anything like them, its refreshingly different. Can you suggest me some bands similar to them -Atmospheric accoustic/folk doom - thats the best I can make out of them just minus the whinning & crying vocals which i can just about tolerate.

also some bands similar to-

Suidakra-Pre command to charge
Equilibrium
Wolfchant

I doubt youd like any of these bands you seem to be more into black metal & funeral doom? but just incase.

im into every type of metal in some regard...except horrendous opera metal, most powerl metal and pseudo "progressive" metal nonsense. but i indeed dont like the 3 bands you listed, so ill refrain from posting similar ones.

as far as Uaral...its unfortunate how unique they are, for they are pretty good truth be known. Ulver is the obvious choice, but id also recommend empyrium, fleurety, tehni, october falls and early in the woods.

I know you're just naming a few, but how you left out Dave Brubeck and Duke Ellington is beyond me!

the duke isnt an ice breaker in my opinion...its more of a refined taste once you get used to the genre...similar to louis armstrong and billy holiday. And as for dave brubeck, hes just one of dozens i left out...but in my opinion hes the REO speedwagon of the classic jazz realm.

Haha reo speedwagon. I disagree, but i'm laughing more that you brought up REO. I almost forgot about that group, gave me a chuckle. If you're going to throw someone into miles davis, i cant say that duke is making a stretch by any means. Same goes for mingus.

EDIT: As an aside, it saddens me that jazz has died out from how popular it was once was. SO much gold to find from those musicians and a lot of people these days just aren't introduced to it.

lol Yeah I thought so about the 3 bands.I've heard emyrium, tenhi, october falls and some of -in the woods & ulver offcourse.I dont seem to like any of them besides ulver so ill check some early in the woods and fleuerty. Thanks for the suggestions.

If you like funeral doom surely you have heard of Shape of Despair, they are indeed an amazing funeral doom band, probably among the best

their first 2 albums i enjoy...but i think their recent work has actually gotten pretty cheesey...or if nothing else, over-SYNTH afied. another finnish funeral doom act which is absolutely destroying me the last few months who do it VERY well is Tyranny...check THEM out. :p

I agree, they have too much ambience + synth on thier later albums which could get boring although I wouldn't call them cheesy at all. I think i'll check out Tyranny and a few other bands mentioned.:)
