Sorcier des Glaces - Sorcier des Glaces

Okay, so after a few listens this is good. Uneven, though. There's a few "atmospheric" parts which don't serve much purpose other than to pad the song out. But then there's plenty of gorgeously evocative melodic parts that are the trademark of this band. And there's even some vitriolic black/thrash assaults through the song.

I am not a fan of the one long song format so for that reason this is never going to be a favourite of theirs for me. It's definitely a step down from North in my eyes, but it's filled with plenty of really good moments that are better than most black metal coming out these days.

I'll add that I think Sebastien is currently one of the best vocalists in the genre and his voice is in fine form here. Doesn't use as many as the deeper growls from North, though.

I wasn't huge on it personally, but I only listened to it once. Probably just me though, because I have liked every album from them less and less since The Halo of Burning Wings, which is easily my favourite album of theirs.

not sure there's enough metal on here for it to be list-eligible, but you won't find many better '70s hard rock albums from the 2010s. they cite priest, winterhawk, camel and wishbone ash as influences. was released by high roller, so you know it's good.

Sorcier Des Glaces. Really impressed with this one. Enjoyed the flow for the 50 minute duration. Seamless, really.

Kauan Sorni Nai. The SDG album made me throw this one on because although it is split up into multiple tracks, it really is just one long song. A melodic journey which isn't afraid to be harsh when it has to. Highly recommended telling of a harrowing tale.
