This is without a doubt the best thing I've heard all year.

A true swan song. "After Forever" might be the best Pagan Altar "song" with it's simplicity. This is without a doubt the best thing I've heard all year.
Richard Christy's magnum opus in drumming

Individual Thought Patterns > The Sound of Perseverance
Nah.Individual Thought Patterns > The Sound of Perseverance
Which is why I didn't mention it in that thread.Irrelevant for the 1998 thread
In comparison to Chuck's previous forays into progressive death metal under the Death name, The Sound of Perseverance just sounds nowhere near as tight and focused to me in comparison to ITP, Symbolic or Human. I don't hate it at all but it's pretty underwhelming.Nah.
I think so. I'm definitely not slighting the musicianship. It's more from a composition perspective than anything else. Like, I could go through the previous albums in one session with no problem whatsoever but with TSOP, it feels like I hit a brick wall halfway through so I end up having to stop to listen to it later. Which sucks because I think some of the stuff on it is pretty excellent. It doesn't sound as focused and tight? Really?
