Alexi vs. John Petrucci

the seven string jackson USED to exist on import. i think it was japanese made...now if you want one you have to custom order one from the u.s...

i'd say petrucci is better than alexi, no offense to alexi lovers. i love alexi's playing, infact he is part of my playing influence...then again so is john petrucci... i think in terms of composing a song with insane stuff, petrucci wins hands down...while alexi composes catchy yet technical stuff. they both play different styles...

but in terms of versatility, petrucci wins...mainly because i've only heard alexi shred

yeah Petrucci might have a lead with the composing... but i think CoB is focused quite more on metal than on technicality in comparison to Dream Teather
i'd go with Alexi if i had to choose, i like his personality

john petrucci is a great guitarist, he has EXPERIENCE!!!! Laiho is more talented i believe, but needs to acquire the experience...

And by the way people, it's BERKLEE dammit. Berkley is something else. Hmm,If I compare Jackson and Ibanez I say I like jackson's better.I tried two 7-string guitars (Ibanez) and they didn't feel like what I wanted them to.After that I tried some Jackson's.Warriors,Kelly and Rhoads 59.They were a lot better for me

Yeah, same shit happened with me too. Back in like, '99 I went to go get a new guitar. For eight years, I played on fucking Fenders (I hate Fender) but when I turned sixteen, I had a choice. A whole bunch of shit for my car, or a new guitar. So at guitar center, I was really looking at the Satriani signature. I was jamming out, trying it out, and I saw it. The Marty Friedman Signature Jackson. The autographed one limited to 100 copies worldwide. 24-fret, sharkfin inlays, 24-karat gold plated, etc. I couldn't reach it because it was so fucking high up on the wall, so I ask if I could play it. While I was playing it, my dad comes in and says that they went ahead and bought it for me. My mom also got me an RP7 (which is now discontinued I believe). The Friedman sig went for about 2500 bucks. I'm not rich or spoiled or anything, that's just when we were rich because of our aviation business, but that's another story.

I still have yet to get the Ibanez Universe 7-string. I want one of those fuckers so bad.

I'm a fan of petrucci (more of LTE than DT) and my fav would be petrucci but comparing him to alexi is nonsence ... two different realities, stiles, playing, experience, knowlage... whatever

And since probably some of you dont know what the hell is mattias talking about BERKLEE ... is a usa music school ... the most prestigious usa music school ... some well know musicians studied there (joe stump, paul masvidal and santiago dobles per example)

I think the main reason why people like LTE better than DT or don't even like DT at all is because of Labrie. I personally love Labrie's voice. I don't think DT would be DT without him. If you think Labrie is bad, go check out some stuff from the When Day and Dream Unite album and tell me that Charlie sounds better than Labrie.

Like I said before, DT's lineup is perfect, at least in my opinion, along with most DT fans.
