Alexi vs. John Petrucci

hahahah i think petrucci is only technical cuz he can be. alexi is only technical cuz that's what he LOVES doing.

haha alexi though IMO is the typical shredder, loves to show off. i think john writes how he does because he was trained that way, he did go to berklee after all :D

dude, virtuoso stuff come out for petrucci as piss comes out when you drank a bottle of water and didn't pee for 12 hours...
people say that DT has no feeling because it's technical... and i find funny that people can't understand that if something comes out with lots of technique, it doesn't mean that it isn't "flowing" thru the artist...

Alexi does only shred, while John also uses other influences in his music and solos.
I say, John Petrucci is a far better guitarist.

He is able to play many styles of music and shows that in Dream Theater.
I would also say that he beats Alexi in shredding.

However, I like Alexi next to Vai, Loomis, Friedman, Becker and Eklundh best.

Well, I am a much much bigger DT fan than a COB fan; but, I like both John and Alexi. Of course, I will pick Petrucci. Technically, yes he is better, but his solos are more emtional, well for me at least:)

The guitar solo in the live version of "A Change of Seasons" really hit me, it was so powerful and technical at the sametime. Its like the whole message of the song (which is about death btw) was blown up in my face and I felt like someone was missing in my life, like Portnoy probably felt when he wrote the song. This may sound cheesy, and fuck yeah it is!, but a guitar solo has never touched me like that before.

Fucking, go download the live video from kazaa or wherever now!.. its at the 16 minute mark btw.
