Alexi's amp settings

Hey, I own a 5150 with a Marshall 1960a/b300 watt cab. I think i get close to Alexis sound pretty close, i use the following set up (which sounds better on low volume)

Gain 10
Bass 10
Mid - 2 or 3
Treble anywhere from 5-7
Post gain 1-2
presence (sp?) 10
resonance 10
Thats usually what i use, and i get great lows and great highs too.
I use a Schecter ( :/ ) c1+ with a EMGs, 81 and 85. I think it sounds great, get a 5150 they sound amazing.

have you tried using a SD-1 with it?

No i havent, sorry, im not really a big fan of pedals, i usually use the distortion on the amp itself, to save money, and it sounds great anyways. What is a SD-1?

BOSS Super OverDrive pedal.

If you want to get close to Alexis live sound now, you have to use the Lee Jackson Preamp. It's not that expensive as Bobvex said. At least in europe you get one on ebay for 130-180 Euros. Btw. I have two Lee Jacksons.

The problem with the Lee Jackson is, that is has not enough Bass, yn, it has no balls. When you have two guitars in a band, and tune them to D and have a good soundtechnican, than it's good. But my band is tuned to Es and I'm the only guitar player, so it's kinda of an "empty sound".

I'm wondering why Alexi has such a good sound on stage. Doesn't he has that thing with the orange lights in his rack. I'm wondering since over a year what the hell this is...

As far as I know Alexi used the 5150 in the last century...

yeah, its really tiny sounding by itself.

and as far as i know ALe used to use the Marshall JCM 800 2210 model. Thats the 100 watt diode Clipping model. its got a little more gain than the tube clipping model, so it R0xx0rs for M3T4L. That plus the SD1 sound kick my ass. . .im getting a JCM soon. . 2 months or so. . .so FUCKING LOUD!!

i think i need to replace the Tubes on my Lee Jackson. Im probably gonna go with JJ's or something with more gain than what i have now. . if i can get the fucking sheilds off the damn tubes. .

Ale told me that he uses the Lee Jackson too! Or used...
really. . hmmm *scratches head*

but. . the JCM 800 is still a KICKING ASS metal amp.

If Zakk Wylde, Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King, and many more top metal artists use the JCM, it sure as hell is a metal amp :headbang: But the best Amp i've ever tried is still the ENGL Powerball, that thing has BALLS!!! o_O :headbang:

try the SE, a Diezel, and a Bad Cat Hot Cat

I've tried the Diezel, and i dont like it, somehow i feel that the dist is a bit sloppy, not as tight as the PB, but these are again just personal opinions! ;)

Just to clarify for some of you, I didn't say Alexi uses a 5150. I know what all of his equipment is. I just meant that the simplest way to get the sound he gets is to use a 5150 with an SD-1 through a 1960A.

ENGL Savage 120 Special Edition is the best Amp from ENGL in my ears...

vht pitbulls are badass as well, but the powerball and jcm's are beasts!

im actually thinging of getting the lee jackson and using with my rack to see what i could get out of it

alesis 2/32 Eq
rocktron chameleon 2000(awesome!-two preamps together might be a problem though...)
intellifex
mosvalve mv-962( one of the best solid state poweramps out there to my ears, i want to get an engl though....)
furman power conditioner

i want to also get a h-3000 but i can afford that shit!

I've heard that both the boss OD3 and the zakk wylde overdrive pedal are both better than the sd1 because they have flat eq curves and dont cut out bass. Has anyone tried either of these?
