Anathema's spiritual convulsions...

-Darren White lyrics are excellent (both Anathema & The Blood Divine)
-Niklas Sundin's are very artsy, and likewise excellent.
-Stanne's lyrics are pretty decent.
-Aaraon Stainthorpe is an incredible poet.
-Some Akerfeldt lyrics are good (i.e. My Arms Your Hearse)
-Most Danzig lyrics are excellent.

... list goes on.

Sorry, but Danzig has completely pathetic lyrics. Anathema has good lyrics, they suffice, but I don't love Anathema for their lyrics. I can think of many bands with better lyrics, here's a few:
Solefald
Faith No More
Arcturus
Ulver

Love is a flame
A devil's thing
A violent storm
About to be born
Just look in these eyes
See all the lies
All the things you see
You cannot deny

And this flame
That burns inside
If you get too close
Burn you alive
Just look in these eyes
And see if they lie
All these words I speak
You cannot deny

Got a light
Shines on me
Gentle light
It will never be
See the flame
In my hand
If you're playing with fire
You're playing in Hell

just spread your tentacles
of hate
around my life
i've taken more than you could ever give
you can't believe that someone challenges your right i'm gonna send you back your pain

all i want
all i get
let it be captured
in my heart

world on fire
world of pain
find myself wanting you again
all i want
all i need
let it be captured
in my heart

slip my hand
up inside
cradle the soul
that you hide
from my eyes
i can see
so many things
that you want
that you need
i can give
let it be captured
in my heart

Simple? Yes. Most good lyrics are. Beautiful nevertheless.

If you think that is better than Anathema lyrics, there is something wrong with you:err:

if you think there's something wrong with him you should at least try to explain. judgements on what's better or worse can be made, but nobody can expect them to be taken as they are without a hint of reasoning. if you feel you can't explain why these lyrics are poorer than anathema's, then it's probably just a matter of different perceptions (or you're not that good with words ;) , but that was just a joke, no offence meant).

to me those lyrics looked, at first glance: very simple, with a good pacing (and that is something not often found in anathema, whose lines seem to me rather clumsy or messy at times, albeit passionate), and sort of ethereal (i feel anathema's lyrics dwell in a very similar environment).

i deserved that....i don't actually think there is something wrong with him. It was just my way, at the time, to say I disagree:loco:

Don't get me wrong, i did not dislike the lyrics he posted
......but i feel the emotion and imagery in Anathema's lyrics clearer and stronger......if that made any sense:)

You forced my hand. Here's what I consider good lyrics:

Solefald - Anti-City Strategy

C: For the torso begging on Colaba Causeway
For the green-eyed girl on the street in Mumbai
For the grapefruit tumour that entered the taxi
The bitter reality is far from sexy
L: Choose the grave of the classes
Choose another guide
Than the old god who committed suicide
Am the fire that blew up Oklahoma
Am the wind that demolished Sodoma
C: Choose the grave of the classes
Choose another guide
Than the old god who committed suicide
Am the fire that blew up Oklahoma
Am the wind that demolished Sodoma
The blood that gleams on the butcher's knife
Am filtering Ray-Ban philosophy of life
May my bombs smash The City of No Pity
Kings and generals have never been pretty
Am the child's brown teeth
The ribs that broke
The billion lives that never spoke
Broadcast the crucifixion of the poor
Wake the human beings and arm them for war
The Third World War rages below their feet
Information works for their defeat
Before my fur suits the somber ladies
Before my wolf soul belongs to Hades
Bring wind to the forest of the crosses
Comfort the people who suffered the losses
Stop the media murders
Rumour after rumour
Kill the weak
Say it's postmodern humour
L: Write my thesis with a razor in the face of lies
One word for every hope that dies
The blood-stained brokers die as vampires die
Roll their marble staircase on people that cry
C: Write my thesis with a razor in the face of lies
One word for every hope that dies
The blood-stained brokers die as vampires die
Roll their marble staircase on people that cry
Hand out the pills, pass the chalice
Let us die to give the animals some peace
Together for the first time let us drink
Extinguish everything or what do you think

I prefer very wordy and thought out lyrics. Great fun. Other good lyrics are on these songs: VNV Nation - Honour, Mr Bungle - None of them Knew they Were Robots, Solefald - Backpacker Baba, and Foetus - Verklemmt. Great stuff...

i'm not laying down the law, i have no idea what you might deserve. ;)
it's just that it's all too easy to see a good thread go downhills after it becomes a sequence of 'yes, it does!'-'no, it doesn't' replies.

i, for once, need a few readings to make any statements on the few lyrics posted here as of now (but i'm all for vnv nation, luminousaether).

I totally agree with you cornelius. Anathema's lyrics are suicidal. Examples a fine day to exit, of course; suicide veil, and a also some from alternative 4..
