I thought I would do something a bit different and dedicate a specific thread to each band and sticky it for a bit. This will give those that are unfamilar with the band a chance to read other's thoughts, ask questions, etc. instead of digging through a huge amount of threads at the moment.

I'd like to see a few more thoughts from fans about: how the 2nd version of Extension compares with the first, and how Chimera compares with II=I. Thanks

It took me awhile to get used to the second version of Extension, but now I really like it. I also think Chimera kicks the ass of II=I, which I didn't like as much as the first one.

Let me say again that this band must be contractually required to play "Extension Of The Wish", as it is one of the best prog metal songs of the last decade. And should NOT have been left off the DVD!

Dream Theater covered a part of Andromeda's song "Encyclopedia" in their Instrumedley a few years ago. At that point, l realized Andromeda were making much more of an impact on the prog metal scene than l thought. Their appearance on PP's roster is long overdue.

Great band, also live (seen them twice at PP europe already) and i'm actually surprised to see them as opening act next month at PP Scandinavia. I'd expected them more as a co-headliner, especially in the scandinavia region, but perhaps its what the band wanted.

Looking forward to this gig since it has been a few years already i saw them live.

The Instrumedley on Budokan? I heard nothing but DT and LTE in there.

As per their usual M.O., DT mixed up the Instrumedley as they toured. Part of "Encyclopedia" was mixed in at some dates not sure when & where. l have a boot of a peformance with it...not sure where it was...been awhile since l watched it.

Just so folks know, I liked the band after hearing all three of their releases. However, it was the dvd that kicked my ass and put them on the roster.

For sure, here is my review of it:

Metal Mind does it again with this excellent DVD of Andromeda's
October 2006 performance in Katowice, Poland. I was familiar with the
name but honestly this was my first real exposure to Andromeda, and
I'm happy to say they have made an impressive introduction! PLAYING
OFF THE BOARD shows the band in fine form as they attempt to enliven a
somewhat nonchalant crowd apparently there to witness follow-up bands
Neo and Pendragon (the DVD was shot on the same night as the Pendragon
and Neo live DVDs reviewed in Detritus #411 and #414, respectively).
Polite but lukewarm audience response aside, these pros wow with
plenty of technique and a good selection of songs, executing with
practiced ease such challenging material as melodic opener
"Periscope," chop-heavy instrumental "Chameleon Carneval," "Inner
Circle" with its heavy mid-section riffs, and energetic closing number
"The Words Unspoken." Singer David Fremberg's powerful and impassioned
vocals are a bit of an acquired taste but serve to add a unique
element to the music, helping the band steer clear of the usual Dream
Theater comparisons; actually, to my ears Andromeda are more
comparable to U.K. prog wizards Threshold. The DVD is wonderfully
filmed with a great sound (I used the 2.0 mix), and includes a lot of
bonus material consisting of interviews, amateur footage of the band
having fun as they trek through Europe, older live footage, a bio,
photo gallery and discography. Andromeda fans need to score a copy of
this immediately, and I'd easily recommend PLAYING OFF THE BOARD to
those not yet savvy to Andromeda's artistry...

I seriously can't wait to finally see them live. I've been hoping to see them at Progpower for years now. One of three bands left that I 'NEED' to see live at some point.

Chimera was easily my favorite cd of last year, and I couldn't believe how great they sounded on their live dvd...especially the song The Inner Circle. They seem like cool guys too from what I saw of the behind the scenes stuff.

I picked up Extension of the Wish back at PPV- I bought it blindly because in all honesty, I liked the name of the band as well as the cover art. When I put the CD in, all I wanted was to see them at ProgPower. I am so freaking excited and have now updated my iPod for the PPIX playlist... Just kind of waiting for the samples to be put up so I can add more.

This band is yet to click with me. I've tried to get into them in the past, and even just recently, but it's not working. That DVD looks cool though, and I've heard from several sources that it is terrific. Hopefully they will grow on me in the near future. I would have preferred to see Poverty's No Crime added in this spot, but oh well .. maybe next year?

Just so folks know, I liked the band after hearing all three of their releases. However, it was the dvd that kicked my ass and put them on the roster.

I've downloaded a handful of songs of theirs in the past, and I'm really looking forward to seeing them and getting more into them.

Which of the three CDs is the best one to start with?

I couldn't put Chimera down for a couple of weeks when I had it borrowed. Im not one to get into really out there Prog Metal, but Andromeda kept my attention and kept me wondering what the hell was gonna happen next. Its really funny, within the past year I've started getting more into these proggier bands after not 'getting' them before.
