Well it seems clear that Joey is back, which IMO is great. If peple cannot get over that it sucks. I got over it when Bush was in the band whereas I really didn't liked that period in ANTHRAX history. I moved on plus there's about 1000+ other bands I like besides ANTHRAX though with Joey singing they are among my top 20 favourites. But all that aside, I WANNA HEAR NEW STUFF NOW! I an really anxious how they sound in 2010....

Charile's written some killer new riffs since announcing Joey's return. Full-on thrash is on the menu. There'll be no watered-down NickelBush trax on the new album.
Yeah that watered down "Crush" is really like Nickelback. Are you on drugs, or were you just born lacking your prefrontal cerebrum? If you don't like John fine, but YOU CLAIM to be an Anthrax fan, and you think the Bush era is comparable to that top 40 trash? Get a grip. Every lyric written when John was in the band is way better than the Stephen King Book reports they used to write. As a person ages they typically get more sophisticated in there tastes. How the hell can ANYONE like the lyrics (and music) of say "Skeleton in the Closet" to the genius that is "Catharsis"?

Anthrax has never put out anything "Watered Down"
Sure, some stuff has been heavier than other stuff - BUT by no means has it been "Watered Down."
I like Joey better than John too..

If everything thing they put out had no variation, it would all sound the same - and that would be Gay, thats what makes ANTHRAX different than other metal bands.

you really are in with the band huh? i am totally sure they appreciate you bagging the singer they worked with for a decade and a half as well as chuck and scotts ability to write songs for those same years. didnt realize john bush had so much power over the ENTIRE BANDS direction. good thing you are here to educate all of us posers.

Dont forget Joey is in the band by default, not by choice.
John (nickelbak) Bush was their choice. They want him so much.

Scott's lyrics really did grow during the Bush era yet I think he had a real sincere passion for King (and Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks, Judge Dredd etc) that transcended the dorkiness of SITC, IATL or ATL.

6er I have faith and passion in Charlie riff writing as do you. but aren't you at all concerned that this re-union not turn into a thrash nostalgia act? And mind you I don't mind nostalgia per se, its just that out of the big 4 ( or big 6 if you include testament and exodus) anthrax's sound seemed to always be evolving and growing and never stagnating. A lot of the big thrash acts sound never grew. I realize there is a lot of pro Bush posting on this site and you've really defending Belladonna era in a way I truly respect. I am trying to avoid negative postings here b/c I respect your fan enthusiasm as well as others. But don't you any concerns? Don't you think Bush era thrax had some positives to it?

Sheer nostalgia would be better than NickelBush. No worries! Thrax will be breaking out new tunes. 25% of the Bush era material is great and should be considered Bushthrax, whereas the other 75% is tripe and heneforth should be referred to only as NickelBush.

After 1990, none of the Big4 evolved. In actuality, they DEvolved to accommodate the grunge and neopunk scene. Nevertheless, all except Anthrax have recaptured some of their glory on their latest releases. The new Anthrax album certainly will be better than Death Magnetic and World Painted Blood, and possibly better than Endgame, which is very solid.

I really hope Anthrax will put the other ones to shame.

I liked Death Magnetic. It was like a very modern approach on Thrash. Okay, the drums are totally off, but apart from that i think its great.

World Painted Blood was good, but since every Slayer album sounds the same that was to be expected. Good but not really groundbreaking metal.

Endgame was just plain boring. Technically great, but none of the songs stuck in my head after i listened to it. Nothing i though i should hear again. The System Has Failed was awesome, United Abominations was half-great and half-boring and Endgame was just boring. I can see a trend there...

If everything on the new Anthrax album will be at least half as good as Fight 'Em, then they will destroy the other Big 3.

i would argue sown is the most complete album of the Bush era. I do think stomp, vol. 8 and wcfya (which is imho an amazing album) lack a certain cohesiveness. Anthrax in its pure thrash phase Spreading and ATL had that song connectedness that maybe some of the later releases don't have. But there's a sameness there too. with State and Persistence opened the book on thrax's sound. They were clearly yearning to expand there sound. Scott's lyrics developed more maturity in this transitional sound time too. I respect your opinion we just disagree. I do agree with you that the new thrax has the potential to be better than the other releases from the big 4. But I would suggest WCFYA already proved that.

PS I have a lot of respect for the new releases by testament and exodus. i can't say they express much growth but there very solid slabs of thrash.

Wow, 6er, if I didn't already think you were fucking retarded, I do now.

Nickeback? You DO realize that every single Bush era Anthrax album but one came out before Nickelback was even heard of, right?

I prefer the recent Kreator releases to those of Testament and Exodus. The new Annihilator is decent. The thrashier metalcore bands are outdoing most of the thrash legends. All That Remains, Trivium, Sylosis, and Bullet for My Valentine are the new Big 4.

BfmV? That's a joke, right? Good guitars ruined by whiny vocals and stupid lyrics...

Pay no attention to Joey Belladonna's one-man cheerleading squad.

The New Big Four:

Mastodon
Lamb Of God
Killswitch Engage
Unearth

Wow glad that's probably only in the US.....

I think te last Exodus and over Kill releases were pretty solid, it's all gone back to the roots. Let's hope Anthrax does the same!

...where's Machine Head from your lists? Heathen? Death Angel? Forbidden... the whole second wave of Bay Area scene...well some of those participated the 1st wave too...:)

I like Mastodon a lot...and can see them becoming huge in Europe.

T:)

Crush is Brutal.

Trivium is the band everyone claims to hate, yet they continue to crisscross the globe on successful tours. They are still honing their sound. Expect their next album to be a monster.

Trivium are a joke. First they make a metalcore album, real metalheads hate them for it, but since they want step into Metallicas shoes (oh yeah, they are megalomaniacs) they say in every interview they hated that themselves and want to make a real metal record next. So they put on some wannabe-Metallica riffs and sing more like James instead using that whiny-metalcore voice. Real metalheads still hate them for being such wannabes, all their other fans hate them for not doing metalcore anymore. So they say in every interview they hated this record, it was just an experiment and next they want to bring on some real metalcore again.
