I've been into Dead Can Dance for five or six years, for those of you that are unfamiliar with DCD, their musical opus ranges from harder punk influenced songs (not your ordinary punk though) to those more folk (whether it be oriental or pure acoustic kind of folk). And I love it all.

So I was just wandering whether anyone shares my afinity for this band.

As I said it's not your ordinary punk. Punk influenced more like it. Looks more like eigthies kind of goth. Can't remember anything to compare it to though.

Try downloading these songs: "The Trial" and "A Passage In Time".

And definitely download these, if you haven't already heard them: "American Dreaming", "The Carnival Is Over", "Ullyses", "In The Kingdom Of The Blind The One-Eyed Are The Kings" (along with the rest of the "Serpent's Egg")

Did i hear the word 'punk' in conjunction with Dead Can Dance??
You sad sad person.

listen to: "Musica eternal", "colour of death's eyes", "Kadath", "Indus"

...and then try to explain to me what punk has to do with DCD??

Dead Can Dance is a great band :) I' ve go most of their cds actually.. the one i prefer is Within The Realm Of A Dying Sun.. dark stuff

As I said, their musical opus ranges from punk influenced works (need I stress out again that this is not PURE punk like the ghastly Sex Pistols and The Exploited) to acoustic folk ones.

You obviously haven't heard their debut album (entitled "Dead Can Dance"). Take a listen to "The Trial".

And don't get so offensive....bubba :D

Geez....one needs a push in the right direction now and then eh?

I love the guys lyrics, especially the ones on "In The Kingdom..." and "Ullyses", both from "The Serpent's Egg". They treasure so much power in them and Perry sings it with a lot of emotion. "American Dreaming" from "Towards the Within" is also a great song with great lyrics ("We've been too long American dreaming I think we've all lost the way" - couldn't have said it better)

TMC being This Mortal Coil or?

I love their It Will End In Tears album (TMC) especially "Song To The Siren" and "Another Day"

Lisa did some work on it, I think the song is called Waves Become Wings or smthg. Not bad.

 Not bad????? Now that understatement is nearly on ther scale of saying the holocaust was slightly harsh. (I'm a big TMC if you hadn't guessed. Waves become wings is damn good. Its their most accesible and easy to like album, an masterpiece!

I took a listen to the album and realized I had made a mistake: there are two Lisa Gerrard songs on IWEIT and I mixed them up. "Waves Become Wings" is great but I meant "Dreams Made Flesh" were so-so. Not bad but not that good either. Again a matter of opinion.

We do agree in something: "It Will End In Tears" is a darn good album. As I said my favorites from the album are Another Day and Song To The Siren (and also Barramundi, forgot about that one).

I think its fair to say I have no favourites on that album, I love them all. Not true for the other 2 albums tho :) But yeah, IMO all of the ones you mentioned are damn good (hehe, well I'd say that about all songs on thast album)

4AD is a great label :)

Right on. Still I prefer DCD over TMC (and again I get flamed by the angry mob :D ) they have a bit more depth, especially in their lyrics.

To digress a bit from the band in the spotlight, I just saw a Pearl Jam special on Viva 2. God I love that band.

Oh yeah, did you know the story behind Dead Can Dance name? Apparently, it refers to taking old instruments and making them live again by playing them, hence Dead Can Dance.
Cool eh?

Yes, i have heard 'Dead Can Dance' actually.

You, on the other-hand, are a monkey. :D

'The Trial' Is in absolutely NO WAY whatsoever 'punk'... Maybe you could call it 'eighties rock' or something. But i surely don't see any punk in it.

Great to see you talking it up godisanathiest :D I LOVE Dead Can Dance...This Mortal Coil, Swell, Laika, Throwing Muses ohh the brilliant Kristin Hersh *drool* the entire label is oozing with honey smothered sounds just waiting to be discovered...I was lucky enough to see DCD perform live at the National Art Gallery...a very special moment indeed! *goosebumps galore*

Oh no, not again, no, NOOOOO :D

I didn't say PUNK I said PUNK INFLUENCED. I also said PUNKISH SORT OF EIGHTIES GOTH go back a few messages.

Yeah right, eighties rock. I heard Brendan Perry was deeply influenced by Howie D of Backstreet Boys and how he sang so vividly hahahahahaha

Oh yeah nitwit :)grin:) did you know that Brendan Perry used to play in a band that covered the New York Dolls and The Stooges? Maybe those influences caught on in the early DCD works? Nitwit :D
