Home, probably
I've recently joined a jazz band at my school and am keen to find out more about jazz, specifically fusion stuff. I know a few songs by Billy Cobham, Guthrie Govan, Snarky Puppy and some others but want to know what you guys would recommend I listen to to start off. I already own and enjoy Frank Zappa's Hot Rats album, maybe I try some more of his stuff? Maybe Miles Davis? Mahavishnu Orchestra? Of those bands, which albums would you recommend I listen to, and also any other band or album suggestions would be nice.

Yeah, the bass on that song is what I like about it too. It anchors the music in a way you don't get with straight up jazz, which stops it from becoming a noodlefest.
Agreed! That's what I love about the bass, it's so versatile when played well. It can help the drums keep rhythm while also adding to what the guitars are playing (and horns, keyboards/pianos etc. in a jazz setup).
