Any of you used the Fatcity snare sample?

So I've been using it for some demos recently, and I think it sounds really good. Especially when blended with other snares that are really good. It just really gives it that extra beef that makes it cut through the mix like butter.

Edit: should stop saying really.

adam d uses it almost exclusively.

i'm thinking, if it's good enough for him... it's good enough.

Missing in my drum samples library.

Could someone post it?

Just search for fatcity snare on the forum and it's in a thread related to Paramore. I don't think it's in the sample sticky, so I'll post it there later.

I think there are two samples that are slightly different which I used to avoid excessive machine gun effect.

Does anyone know if it's part of a sample collection or if it was just made as a singular sample?

Correct. From the Alesis D4. Fat City and a few other samples from that module were/are highly used by Sneap, Richardson and etc... Not sure if that's the case now but the samples are really only good when blended with the natural snare and other samples.

I call them 'lego samples'. Putting together hybrid snare sounds by mixing, matching, pitching up/down, etc... =D

I've been looking into these for a while, been thinking of grabbing one from ebay.
Do you guys think it's worth to spend like $150-$200 for one of these just for the
3-4 useful snares and kicks? Or should I just stick to my Slate samples?

I've been wanting a more Sneap/Richardson sound with my drums lately...

Do you guys only use one velocity for the snare? I have some D4 and D5 samples, but none of them are multisampled, which at least for me, is pretty useless

Can anyone upload the fatcity sample? the link in the paramore related thread is gone.

I'm pretty sure its not allowed to upload them.

@Charlez
For the samples itself I don't know if its worth it. As the others said, the samples are more blending samples. But the D4 can also make midi out of your triggers on the drums.

It's also in a thread about Asking Alexandra I think. It's a thread called "How do I get this drum sound?"

And I agree about the thickening thing. On it's own it sounds pretty computer generated.

Sorry for bumping this, but for those of you who use EZX Metalheads, the Fatcity is great to blend with the Pearl Reference snare. I've been blending about 60:40.

I prefer the birtheater sample that was posted on here, it has more depth to it and doesn't sound as fake.

Just do a search man.

used the fat city sample for the first time last night in a new mix I'm doing and it really helped fatten up the snare sound. great snare layering tool for sure. I had it mixed in with an SD2.0 snare (ludwig i think) and 2 slate snares (11 and another one) and it sounded fantastic. really helped to define the snare in the mix....i had the fat city really low, about a 10% blend....but it definitely made a noticeable difference.

Did a search on the Fat City sample, which revealed that it's being used a LOT for layering, and now I feel like I'm missing out :( I'm very curious to hear what it sounds like...

Didn't find the sample even though I searched quite a bit, not sure if it's still illegal... But seems several sneapsters have "acquired" the sample over the years... I wonder if it's for sale anywhere

those things came out in '91 and all the samples are stored on a ROM chip... legality aside, i wonder how epic of a project it would be to just straight up copy an image of said ROM chip? where's jbroll jeff when we need him..

maybe you'd be wiser to search for alesis D4 samples instead of a single specific drum from it o_0

This. It's actually quite easy to find. ;)
