Real snare tracks - mic'ing/processing

The sm57 is great, but I realy love the compination of audix i5 on the top and sm57 on the bottom.

First four or so hits are as normal, raw files, just the close mic 57 on top. Second half is with a blanket over my head.

Now neither one is perfect, the first one is a bit distant, but the second one is a bit muddy. But I think a deader room is preferred, and I'm going to try and hang some blankets n stuff up.


edit; I can imagine this is exactly the sort of thing a typical listener would listen and go "uh.. what? they sound exactly the same". They are more similar than I had thought. BUT, this is also a test without bleed (I can't exactly play the cymbals with a blanket covering myself and the snare drum), so I think it'd make a bigger difference when it comes to live tracks, which would explain why I can get great samples but not great live drums.
