Any Over 40 Opeth fans?

Maharet,

yep, the name Abhorsen comes from the Garth Nix books. I really enjoyed them, even though I originally purchased the first novel for my son, I ended up liking it as much as he did, and then decided to read the rest.

cool!
i have a cottage north of st. peterrsburg, in a place called Leypasuo (im not sure if thats the way to spell it in Finnish). and im really a finnish-rusfsian war geek. i know all the facts about it, all the major battles, etc etc... just thought its cool that someone here is from a place so close to my cottage which i miss humongously. (my cottage is closer to finnland, then to st. petersburg. 80 km to Finlad, 120 to st. petersburg)...

I'm 38 and a HUGE Opeth fan. I took my two teenage kids to the Washington DC show. They loved it! My 15 year old step son was familiar with them but my daughter wasn't. Now she wants all of their CDs. I am a huge metal fan...anything from 70s and 80s metal to powermetal to some black and death metal. Metal keeps me young.

I saw this one lady at the Seattle show that must have been into her 60's. I started a conversation with her just because I thought it was cool to see an old timer there and it turned out she has been bringing her kids to shows for a while and had grown accustomed to it.

Also, my mom who is 38 likes damnation and blackwater park. She's not big on the growls but you gotta give her credit. She also seems to like some of my other metal albums up until the screaming kicks in. I can understand it though, I didn't like it at first either.

My dad is totally against metal.

no, guy, i will not shorten my sig just for the likes of you since i dont post here much...

Abhorsen, Awesome! i loved the first one but i havent found the others yet...

Check out the guy on the far right in the third picture from the right (center row)! He definitely is the kind of guy I like seeing at Opeth shows, and I'd guess he's well over 40!

FUN FACT: in the picture on the far right in the third row, novembers doom's new guitarist is the freakishly tall guy with the Novembers Doom hoody. :D
That's guy's my hero! :loco:

I will be 41 this year and I've been into Opeth for a few years now. I grew up on Prog Rock, so now that I've been into Death Metal for several years, it's really cool to hear a band that incorporates both genres seamlessly. Back then there were no musical boundaries so any band that incorporates the stylings of Pink Floyd, King Crimsom, Rush..etc, I am all for. Hope younger people will explore some of Opeth's influences also.

Anybody here over 40 and listen to opeth? I've seen a couple middle agers at the concerts and always wondered if they were there escorting their teenage child or they were a genuine fan? I know I'll be listening at that age \m/
